Can you at least tell me why you like it or have it in high regards, there is not changing the fact that i found it a chore to read but I'm interested to read other perspectives. It just baffles me seeing this book in particular appearing multiple times on /lit/ 100s and it happened to be the one i actually disliked from the ones i had read

Trolls are seemingly outnumbering old literature enthusiasts, and the frog posters are an obvious tell. Also people who use foul language.
You've noticed what I've noticed. I've already told people what they must do to push them out, but I was ignored. Now it is mostly too late.
4chan is going to be one big /b/ board and it's the user base's fault.

Well if you care to listen for a sec, i can explain the thoughtprocess behind it.

The theme of decadence became, generally speaking, up in the context of highcultures who stopped existing, such as the roman empire (Montesquieu - Considerations on the Causes of the Greatness of the Romans and their Decline, 1734 is probably the most known work who brought it into public light) who rose to an incredible scale, but in the end perished from a multitude of factors.
Some say it was because of internal societal changes that occured over time such as loss of virtue (Rousseau iirc). This debate went on to Nietzsche where it became known to the germanspeaking audience, ect.

Regardless, the train of thought went to: well, if all great nations will sooner or later collapse, what could be an alternative?
One thing that pretty much all states/nations of europe had in common, was christianity, the religion who stayed in europe over all this time.

On the one hand, the hopes of a community of likeminded people, in the persuit of one cause was the surest way to "remain". Others were simply in deep existential despair in face of historical events.

Nor to your point: Well, If a believe is bringing you the inner peace you need in your life, go ahead. Wether youre just delusional is not my concern.

And yes, as all living things, we are sooner or later gonna die, "decadence" is inevitable.

What kind of magic are you talking about?

I work full time and this year I have read:

Under the Volcano
Matterhorn
The Alexandria Quartet
a three volume history of the Crusades + numerous shorter books

I could have read even more if I didn't waste so much time on computer games/this shithole.
