I've been enjoying the bible so far but I noticed I have a lot of problems with some of Jesus' core teachings.

First of all, "turn the other cheek" seems more like a weak cope. How did Christianity survive with that kind of attitude?

Hey /lit/, I’m looking for treatises whether from the perspective of Christian theology or just general philosophy on beauty and the transcendent, perhaps touching on proofs of God that are out of the range of the more ‘typical’ arguments, so to speak

>Hitler was self-taught and he made no attempt to hide the fact. The smug conceit of intellectuals, their shiny ideas packaged like so many flashlight batteries, irritated him at times.
>I don't think anyone ever read as much as he did. He normally read one book every day, always first reading the conclusion and the index in order to gauge the work's interest for him.

>He was readily familiar with the writings of the most diverse authors, and nothing was too complex for his comprehension. He had a deep knowledge and understanding of Buddha, Confucius and Jesus Christ, as well as Luther, Calvin, and Savonarola; of literary giants such as Dante, Schiller, Shakespeare and Goethe; and analytical writers such as Renan and Gobineau, Chamberlain and Sorel.
>He had trained himself in philosophy by studying Aristotle and Plato. He could quote entire paragraphs of Schopenhauer from memory, and for a long time carried a pocket edition of Schopenhauer with him. Nietzsche taught him much about willpower.

>His thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. He spend hundreds of hours studying the works of Tacitus and Mommsen, military strategists such as Clausewitz, and empire builders such as Bismarck. Nothing escaped him: world history or the history of civilizations, the study of the Bible and the Talmud, Thomistic philosophy and all the masterpieces of Homer, Sophocles, Horace, Ovid, Titus Livius and Cicero. He knew Julian the Apostate as if he had been his contemporary.

We need to bring back capital punishment to a good portion of crimes and an eye for an eye mentality to criminal punishment, its the only way to force people to be moral. You cut off someone's arm? You get your arm cut off. You steal someone's property? You return it and pay due for the damages. I don't see how that's not fair. The Code of Hammurabi worked well for the Babylonians, there's a reason the laws were like they were, we haven't changed as humans since then, were still as cruel as we have always been and corrupted, the only smart choice is to weaponize that cruelty to minimize the suffering of everyone

Thank god, I found a true intelligent American. There are a lot of uneducated, non-curious, and underperforming people in this country. Go ahead, google American public education. It is worse than other countries, even those with a higher percentage not graduating, because if they didn't make it so fucking easy, then we'd see higher drop-out rates. It is a double-edged sword because education is terrible so the now high school doesn't mean anything to a huge flood in the labor supply.

They all hold on to the symbolism and pseudo-ideas that the "red" or "blue" does.

I have a hard time understanding Americans that come from a terrible education country, their vocab doesn't do them justice and aren't given realistic goals.

American lit, if it was ever, will fall from grace and degenerate into what >>15897915
posted. I am sick of the political books ghost-written for a grifter to be shoved down the country with the less readers. Yes oh man yes I need to read someone (Old boomer who lives in a completely different simulation of the U.S. that I do) else's opinion on the three weeks he worked with Dfrumpf. The book by Mary L. Trump seems good, I must say.
