This is partly a result of the general decline of our culture, but partly also owed simply to the death of literature. STEM is not like this. Not all the students are passionate, but there's a good amount of passionate people who work really hard. It's just that the appeal and power of literature today cannot motivate people to engage with it.

One of my family members is a teacher at a high school - apparently, kids in their late teens can't read an analogue clock. It's not like reading an analogue clock is an IQ test, but I mean, come on!

This schizopost is really growing old, least of all because it doesn't convince anyone and we all just waste our breath on irrelevant shit. I started as a perennialist but I am growing increasingly convinced that Christianity is just a dogmatic, non-religious lobotomy doctrine today.

This is a bullshit strawman btw, to my knowledge Abrahamic religions are the only ones that dare claim to be the single path to salvation. European pagans, Buddhists, Hindus, Taoists etc. all acknowledge the possibility for multiple paths.

In other words you've got nothing other than emotional appeal.

>"God cares not for this vanity!"
>"Why? B-because I fucking said so!"
I could just as well say that God condemns every ignorant person to eternal suffering beyond your imagination.

having to deal with bureaucracy makes me want to end my life on the spot. I was not born to fill out fucking forms and attend meetings that last hours in which fuck all gets done. BUREAUCRACY IS A FUCKING NIGHTMARE.

I can't help but think I'd be happier in a tribe.

If the New Yorker isn’t good, then what are some good literary magazines?

From Mark Fisher's "Capitalist Realism: Is there an alternative?"

“When it actually arrives, capitalism brings with it a massive desacralization of culture. It is a system which is no longer governed by any transcendent Law; on the contrary, it dismantles all such codes, only to re-install them on an ad hoc basis. The limits of capitalism are not fixed by fiat, but defined (and re-defined) pragmatically and improvisationally. This makes capitalism very much like the Thing in John Carpenter’s film of the same name: a monstrous, infinitely plastic entity, capable of metabolizing and absorbing anything with which it comes into contact.”

Not the last lines of the whole book, but of one section in particular. Really resonated with me. I grew up in New York City and it used to have such a vibrant culture. Its lost its soul.
