I'm currently reading Atlas Shrugged but I'm finding it a bit of a chore. I've found lots of threads and discussions before saying it was a waste of time, paper etc.

So I come to you learned people of literature, will Ayn Rand's supposed magnum opus pay off in due course or will it fail to be anything more than mediocre?

About to start reading Atlas Shrugged, what should I expect?

What the fuck is this /lit/?

I honestly wanted to give this book a shot, and honestly like it. So far, it's nothing but a bunch of shallow, greedy people who are just interested in boning each other and making money. They have entire pages dedicated to how much they want to bone each other. Is the concept of a man earning his harvest from the sweat of his brow really so fascinating that this has become a long-lasting piece of literature, inspiring great minds such as Niel Peart? I find it hard to enjoy this tripe. It's like Heinlein decided to write a realistic fiction, make the characters even more cardstock, and the essays of thought much, much, much longer. And then he made it completely unenjoyable for anyone to read. And everyone is an asshole.

I just don't know /lit/. I'm going to finish it, certainly, but only for integrity's sake, in the same way I managed to finish Twilight. If my mind changes by the end then so be it.

But I'm curious what you folks thought.
