Buenas /lit/eratos
Yendo al grano - me crié en una escuela internacional, y la mayoría de mi educación fue en inglés. Naturalmente adopte al inglés como una lengua cuasimaterna, y me desenvolví muy bien en ella. Leí bastantes clásicos respectivos y alcanze un nivel de expresión bastante competente - al punto que hasta pensaba en ese idioma. Al pubertar un tanto, noté una enajenación de mi propia cultura. Y también que simplemente mi expresión era raquítica, mi léxico escaso y mi sintaxis anglosajona. En fin, vulgar me sentí.
Acto siguiente a esta epifanía, decidí sumergirme en la literatura hispana. Empece a recitar poesía, escribir palabras que desconocía, leer cuanto podía. Designe al Quijote como un hito que quiero alcanzar, anterior a él he leído el Lazarillo, Amadís de Gaula, la Celestina, poesía del Siglo, etcétera, etcétera. Creo que ya estoy cerca de poder leerlo. Además he indagado bastante en Borges, García Márquez, etcétera. Me encanta don Juan Tenorio y fue muy fructuoso el leerlo todo en voz alta.
He superado bastantes de mis dificultades originales, y si me siento agusto con el idioma. También habló bastante en público, ya que mis estudios precisan bastante de la oratoria. Aún así quisiera que mi lengua fuese plateada, y mi dicción cristalina. ¿Que puedo hacer - o leer - para enaltecer asaz mi idioma?

How do I approach a bookshop?

I only ever go in when I know what it is I want to buy. How do people go in and 'peruse' and then come out with a book they found that seemed interesting? How do people come to the conclusion that 'this book is definitely worth my money over all the other books here'? How do you judge the worth of a book you've never heard of and just picked up off the shelf?

Don Quixote thread.


Started the first book a few weeks ago and I just finished the Anselmo and Lothario/Don Fernando and Cardenio side story and man that was a slog. I can see why people like the book at a couple of points but the story/prose hasn't really overwhelmed me at this point. Once I'm finished reading the first part, is it alright if I put part 2 into my backlog for a while?

Any good books with lawful good characters? Characters like Javert and Robocop, or to a lesser extent Don Quixote or Justine, basically characters with strong senses of morality. I really love books with these characters for whatever reason.
