Hi /lit/, I recently finished The Myth of Sisyphus and I really liked it, it was a hard read but it made me ponder a lot when I understood it, can you recommend me some other non-fictions essays like this one.

Fuck yeah existentialism.

>> No.1056166

I kind of like Camus but I identify myself more as a nihilist; I don't believe in 'life is what you make of it' to some extent. I think it has no meaning whatsoever, and the only reason to live is to, well, just live and enjoy it while it lasts.

In b4 http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NietzscheWannabe

Is there any philosopher sharing this point of view? I think neither Nietzsche nor Schopenhauer were nihilists (at least not in that sense) but I'm still searching. Help please

>> No.1056201

mmm... the file name should be absurdism not existentialism imho

>> No.1056413

bump: I bought The Plague, The fall, The kingdom and selected essays compilation (I never liked the Stranger but I hope these other fiction works of Camus are better)

I also bought The Portable Atheist because I feel bad for Hitchen's

>I don't believe in 'life is what you make of it'
>the only reason to live is to, well, just live and enjoy it while it lasts
>enjoy it
>implying that "enjoying life while it lasts" isn't making something of it, in that you imbue certain things/actions with meaning because you enjoy them

I hate you.

kill yourself, you fucking degenerate. What's actually said in Sisyphus amounts to around a paragraph, the rest is padded-out nonsense betraying Camus' status as an inferior writer with ill-fated notions of philosophy.

>existentialism

"Lol hey guys let's overcome nihilism through the positing of an heroic ego lol yeah that'll work"

You've got to hand it to the orients that they were never this retarded

wow, I feel stupid for writing that redundant phrase, and I was referring to this edition: http://www.amazon.com/Myth-Sisyphus-Other-Essays/dp/0679733736/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qi

not the single essay, for me the whole concept of the absurd, the suicide option, intellectual-suicide, living without appeal, the nausea, nostalgia, making a revolt; amounts to more than a paragraph, imho he named things I've felt before but never dared to inspect further.

Yeah yeah, the absurd is the big bad boogie-man existentialists piss their pants over. Frankly I don't see why one wouldn't just subsume absurdism under nihilism, but then it's not my fault existentialists are narrow-minded narcissists.
