What are some differences between the two? I heard there is feminist content in the series is that true?

Anecdotal experience, but everybody but one person I've spoken to about this said the show is better than the books.

The books are great, first two are the best (just like the show) but there are feminist undertones, yes.

Martin himself was an SJW for his time, he's honestly a hack outside of ASOIAF

The show is trash. The only good parts of the show are the close adaptations of the scenes and plot lines from the books - when the show runners try and write their own content it's noticeably fucking terrible. The last few seasons, as it's moved further away from the books/not had any influence from the books at all, has just devolved into badly written, illogical, sensationalist garbage.

The books has a lot of intricate plot weaving, well developed characters, political intrigue that makes sense, secrets, well implemented foreshadowing and great dialogue. Game of Thrones is TITS! DRAGONS! JOKES! SHOCK! KHALEESI!

In the books, the clothing, suits of armour, places, character design and many other elements are all huge and colourful and fantastical. In the show, because of the restraints of reality and money, everything is toned down to 1 or just cut out. If the books are a rainbow, the show is a sludgy puddle.

The only reason Game of Thrones became popular was because A Game of Thrones was a great book, and GoT Season 1 was a fairly accurate, if a little dreary, adaption of it - and there were many well written and exciting scenes and characters in the next couple of books to use for later seasons... and they remained high quality entertainment even when mishandled and botched on the screen.

At the moment, the books are the show are completely different entities. I've been a fan of the books since the 90's, and although I enjoyed season 1, I could barely watch the latest season. It was pure cringe, utter fucking trash.

The only reason someone would say the TV show is better, or in any way comparable to, the books is if
>they have never read the books
or
>they genuinely prefer TITS N DRAGONS and don't have time for actual decent storytelling

The last couple of books could have done with some decent editing, yes, but the TV show is abysmal.

>there is feminist content in the series is that true

There's Dorne, a kingdom where unlike everywhere else, female offspring can inherit titles over their younger male siblings, but that's pretty much it. The princess of Dorne is a stupid character that messes everything up while getting paranoid about her succession rights anyway. The female characters are all well written, real and suitably flawed with long character development.

The TV show is a wreck
>I AM A KWEEN
>Yes, but I am a woman >:] *sly smile to the camera*
>THE REIGN OF MEN IS OVER we sexy women have killed them all for no reason YAY
>I was a shy little girl 5 mins ago but suddenly I am now STRONG AND CONFIDENT look at my POWERFUL dress and POWERFUL DEMEANOR
>i may be an evil bitch, but I am a girl so
>take ur clothes off sexy man ahuhu ;]
>bad pussy

Do yourself a favor and avoid the books. After the second one, they are a complete mess and not likely to be finished before GRRM dies of a massive heart attack.

it's like the exact opposite of this, though. even Dunk & Egg is better than aSoIaF.

I think George R.R. Martin thinks he's a feminist but deep down he is a closet misogynist because all his female characters are overly emotional or incompetent. You could name any female character from the series and I could show you at least three examples of how they are incompetent and overly emotional.

The books focus on the point of view of one character per chapter. You see the events from their perspective and get to know characters through their thoughts and reactions. It's entirely different from the show in that aspect. Season 1 of the show is pretty faithful and they've gotten more and more watered down and nonsensical with each season.

>goes downhill after Clash of Kings

I know people overrate the red wedding, but that whole plot and the way it ended with Tyrion is some of Martin's best work. The only thing stupid about A Storm of Swords is zombie Catherine randomly shoved into the epilogue.

I've only read the first two books, I enjoyed A Game of Thrones but A Clash of Kings was a dull slog so I gave up with the series. I've watched the TV show all the way through and it's pretty shite.

They're wrong. The first 3 books are better than the entire show, but the show's licence to cut stuff from the books means that the clusterfuck GRRM has written himself in to is at least palatable for an hour at a time.
