Hello /lit/,

I'm looking for great short story collections. By collections, I mean stories by different authors. I'd rather have them be originally written in English, but translations are fine too. Mostly American and British stories would be ideal, although anything in English will do well.

So, do you know of awesome books gathering the best stories? (I'm a teacher, this is for students aged 11 to 15.)

Oh wow, oh wow...
Anyway, look for the classics (The Most Dangerous Game, The Interlopers, maybe some Twain)...
I'm not up-to-date with most of the newer short stories, but that's where Amazon and Borders comes in.

>> No.1142038

Did you read the question asshole? I didn't ask for individual stories (/lit/ already suggested all of these anyway), I asked for collections. Before you criticise who I ask for advice, learn to read.

Secondly, /lit/ is made of normal people with an interest in literature; that's all I need. I often got great advice on here, and if you were more intelligent, you'd know that.

Thirdly, it's not like I will take any book and not CHECK it and READ it before I decide if I'll use it for my students or not. How retarded are you?

I already checked on amazon.com and the likes. I already found collections, but since I haven't read them, I ask on here to see if someone would know of a great collection. How fucking thick are you?

Get the fuck out of /lit/ and back to /b/ where you belong, fucking moron.

First of all what you're looking for is called an anthology. What kind of teacher are you? Anyway, Updike compiled a nice book called The Best American Short Stories of the Century. It's a bit limited because it only has 20th century stuff, but it's good nonetheless.

>> No.1142048

I'm the kind of teacher who knows to use words that his students will understand. If I had used "anthology", your sorry brain would have gotten confused, so I used "collection", which works just as well. Secondly, all anthologies are collections, but not all collections are anthologies. I want good stories, and I don't care if it's an anthology or not.

Stop trying to act badass online, fucking retard. Updike's book is only American authors for all I know, and from what you said, I can't tell if it's really good or not. Coming from a retard on 4chan, I guess I won't take your advice. Now fuck off.

Chill man!
How about news articles? They are easy to find, cover a wide range of topics and you can kind of make them into a 'collection' yourself.

Jesus, whenever this teacher asks us for advice, there's always a little cunt to get on his case for the stupidest thing. A collection, an anthology, big fucking deal? I believe he made his point. Stop acting like douchebags.

This is like helping someone with their homework, but it's a teacher instead of a student.

>> No.1142057

I use articles for another class; for this I really want literature. Poetry ANTHOLOGIES would be good too, if you know of any. But you're right, I could use articles too for these classes.

Shut your whore mouth you little cunt.

I'm not asking for help to do my homework, I'm asking for advice. I'm not like those retards who think they know everything. There are awesome short stories out there that I never heard of. Believe it or not, but I already have my program ready, I'm just looking to improve it if possible.

Now get the fuck off from my thread, you goddam faggot.

I think its funny how /lit/ never delivers.

The compilations of Roald Dahl's short stories are awesome. Go get Skin or something.

So fucking true: simple question, I expect a simple answer, I get fucking retards who think they're damn smart, but eventually fail to give any answer worthy of anyone's fucking time.

I'm a teacher and I swear, GOT A FUCKING PROBLEM? I never swore in class, but teaching is my job, not who I am, so don't expect me to be "a teacher" outside the classroom, you fucking cocksuckers.

Roald might be excellent yes, he's recommended often on here. Thanks!

He pedophile, your kind is not wanted here. Why don't you return to your little den and reread Lolita to yourself while rubbing the body oils of little children all over your loins. Also, why are you teaching students in such a wide age range? You just a pedophile who works as the janitor at the school, are you not?

me again. so even though you're acting like an over emotional douche (note how I said acting, I'm not implying that you are, just that your current behavior is like that, so dont jump down my throat), I decided that I want to help whatever kids you happen to teach.

I used that anthology from 9th to 11th grade. I suppose it's a little off your age range (14-16) but I really enjoyed the stories. I also know there are various editions that have different stories and you can find it pretty cheap online. All of the stories are by famous/classic authors and it gets kids to read their work without having to go through some of the thicker, daunting, novels.

Why are so many English teachers so explosive like this? Is it lingering resentment after realizing that teaching unruly kids was the best you could manage with your degree?
