Still, nobody has ever topped this book. It's the best one there is. I get fucking melachonly thinking about this GODDAMNED BOOK. Fuck, no book has ever impacted me as this one. Seriously, what's wrong with me?

I actually get stressed and nervous just thinking about the starting paragraph. God, it brings me fucking despair thinking about it. I read that book in an "erotomanic" phase of my life and I resonated so much with the poetry of Humbert that it just drew me in completely. Lord.

>Is it good
Unironically the best book I've ever read. Seriously, I memorized phrases of it. Paragraphs by heart because it's just way too beautiful.

Too bad the subject matter is disgusting. All pedos should be executed.

It's well written and everything but I just can't get myself to really feel it. The pedophilia honestly takes me out of it.

I never said I was a pedo, nor that I endorsed anything Humbert did in the plot. In fact, he was a monster, but the beauty of his prose is just undeniable.

"I am dreaming of aurochs and angels, the secret of durable pigments, prophetic sonnets, the refuge of art. And this is the only immortality you and I may share, my Lolita."

What could possibly top this? It sends shivers through my body thinking about some of the moments in this book. It's the closest thing to what literature might be like in heaven

There's only a few overtly descriptive pedo scenes in the book. It isn't like it's kiddie porn the novel. Most of it is fairly tame after a few eyebrow raising scenes in part one of the book. I would say give it a go. I don't find the ideas presented in the book particularly arousing sexually, but the connection you feel to the protagonist eventually leads you to realize just how much he truly loves Lolita, despite the fact that he is an urchin.

What is it actually about? Is it more that it has a theme which could only be expressed through an unusual romantic relationship? Is it a satire?

If it's simply rich, well-executed prose about some dude and his underage girlfriend I have zero interest. If it has a deeper meaning than simply being in physical romantic love with a child, I'd be willing to give it a crack.

It definitely has a strong plot. I get how you might think it's all buttercream prose and no substance based off how people talk about it, but it actually does have a pretty engrossing narrative. The prose is it's strongest aspect, don't get me wrong, but it truly is outstanding on that front. You will probably never find anything like it.

> If it has a deeper meaning than simply being in physical romantic love with a child, I'd be willing to give it a crack.
Without a doubt it has a much deeper meaning than physical attraction. It captures the essence of love, powerful love, felt so strongly as to become hallucinatory even. It is a deeply touching novel and causes you to question the morality of every situation in it. People argue as to if the protagonist did anything wrong at all, or if he was undoubtedly evil. The confiscation of a young girl's life is the backdrop, but it truly is a touching story.

If you're gonna read it with a virtue signaling kind of mindset, I'd say don't read it, you won't understand it's real meaning. but if you just keep and open mind and enjoy the book for what it is and let it work its magic, it will truly be one of the best literary experiences you've ever had.
