I used to come here because I liked to discuss literature. I deleted my bookmark last year when the Peterson threads and Christ LARPERS started to bring down the level of discourse of the board as a whole. Now I just pop into this dumpster fire periodically out of habit. The days of /lit/ being capable of actual discourse have long since passed.

I still find interesting books and writers and thinkers here. Even in the memes--I'd genuinely never even heard of Deleuze before he started getting spammed here a few days ago. /lit/, for all its faults, tends to uncover ideas and texts that just don't pop up in most mainstream book discussions.

Also, I come here to ask for recommendations, and you guys are usually top notch at that. I got a great recommendation for a translation of the Cloud of Unknowing a few weeks ago.

It was a good 3.5 years here but you people are extraordinarily dull, i haven’t laughed at any threads in 6 months and i stopped learning when Girard, Hegel, and Nietzsche posting stopped. The shitposting also used to serve a purpose: keeping the level of discourse higher by identifying and shaming the posters that hadn't lurked long enough to understand the board culture. We've been in an Eternal September for ages, where the number of dedicated /lit/ posters is a drop in the bucket next to self-deluded idiots who have learned all there is to know about their echo-chambers and think that makes them clever. They gravitate to this board because literature seems like an intellectual pursuit, and they've listened to seven or eight Ted talks this week, so hey, they can hang with the best of them.

Community, obscure literary recommendations, articulate shitposting, and a venue to argue about religion and philosophy. I feel that this also is a good testing ground for broader personal understandings I am working on; to properly understand something you need to be able to articulate it in addition to merely absorbing it, and it's always nice to get BTFO'd by somebody who knows a particular topic better than me because it highlights a personal weak spot which I need to turn my attention to.

This community has given me soooo fucking much. In all humbleness. I´ve been here for roughly a year. And I´ve had the biggest philosophical and spiritual ephiphanies ever since reading the thought out quailty posts and discussions that sometimes pop up from time to time here. Of course with some serious ground work already being done - but still this chanel has given me very very much. So people, please stop the "Im only here to meme"-meme. I have such little else in my life that the occasional replies I receive to my posts on /lit/ are essentially my main form of interpersonal communication. It's essentially why I have, for the best part of four years, adopted increasingly bizarre, outlandish but fundamentally entertaining personas on this board, each the result of increasing fear that not doing the previous persona, or at least establishing itself as utterly distinct from it and thus capable of receiving similar amounts of attention, will lead to my having no remaining means of having other people acknowledge my existence. To be honest, I barely read fiction any more as I work full-time in a decent-paying but emotionally and spiritually draining job, but I really don't find any other boards as fertile as this one for growing and harvesting my nourishing crop of (you)s. I mean, I read claims here often by users claiming their lives are pathetic, their mental health shattered, their loneliness unbearable etc, but I must truly be honest in saying that my own life probably surpasses every other board user in its utter debased state of autistic, pathetic, obsessive, embarrassing event after another. Aware of this, and unwilling to contract my self-awareness for the sake of living an "easier" life, I continue to essentially articulate mental illness in every post I make, day after day, in the guise of various personalities, all for no real "reason" except to maintain that one fine thread which still links my massively elaborated imaginative interior life with the real world in which I have never, don't, and will never succeed.
