Anyone with even the faintest knowledge of history would know that the "corn" that Caesar speaks of in Commentaries On The Gallic War is not the corn that we in the west are familiar with, but is rather a poor translation for the word "grain" which in Latin is "Frumentum"

Myself and many others who have read the commentaries would know what you're trying to refer to with your image but it's wrong. Unless of course you were already aware of this and you are posting this ironically. In which case I commend you for your post but it's still blatantly wrong. That anon isn't wrong but he takes his interpretation too far: the Comedy isn't just about religion, there's a whole lot of other themes in it, and it is didascalic (it's supposed to teach you how to live correctly), but religion still informs most of it and it's not just important in the setting, it's a fundamental part of the message.

Still, I agree that most non-italians don't get the Comedy at all, judging by the amount of people who dismiss it as a well-written epic poem.

I'm an admitted Murakamifag, but even I didn't like 1Q84. There are some concepts and ideas in It I think are interesting, but it feels insulated in a sense, where all of the alright stuff is blocked off by faux-magical realism shit that is somehow both explaned too much and not enough, and thrown in with other stuff that simply doesn't come together right. Dante says that the world has to be guided equally by two powers: the Church (Pope) and the Empire (Emperor). Neither of the two powers has to prevail on the other or even interfere with the other's domain. Following the commedia's logic, the world's problems from Dante's time are caused by the absence of a balance between the two.
If we consider the importance of this factor we can understand why the worst traitors of both ecchlesiastic and secular life.
