Okay, organization thread.
I've been thinking of doing it alphabetically but by book title instead of author, since I usually search for a particular reference and not a general author thing.
But I have though about doing them chronologically, I think it would help me give context.

I have considered as a time waster having them in personal purchase order, spend an afternoon remembering when and why I got each one. But it sounds like a bad idea on the long run.

I can't say that I approve of her obsession with the dullest writer in the history of movie franchises. But at least it isn't each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains, the've been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though r-right
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

Not to really indulge this /r9k/ tier post, but have any of you ever had the experience of being with somebody who is just as into something you're passionate about as you are? I remember I dated a girl that I was WAY into music and we could sit for hours listening to albums we liked and enjoying each other's taste. It made every moment so much more pure. I bet being able to do the same with literature would be amazing.

I had a coworker who was really into music and better yet we had similar tastes and he knew all the 80s and 90s underground bands I liked that most people didn't on top also enjoying shitting on modern pitchfork and the bland music it exalts. But we only talked at work, and I regret not asking for his number or email before he left the job, but he was shy and I would usually be the one to start the conversation, so I'm unsure if he liked me back - he wasn't 10/10 attractive or anything like that but was definitely my type (yes, I'm a femanon).
I'm usually let down trying to talk to people about literature though. Honestly, the only person irl I can really talk to about literature is my dad.

ok so I counted how many books are on the shelf, it's approx 368, because the bottom shelf is not fully visible and some books seemed to be stacked next to each other

on her goodreads she lists 393 books as owned which considering there are at least 368 on this shelf isn't too much of a stretch, however she only has 165 marked as read, but since the number for owned seem accurate its safe to assume she's updating how many books she's read it'd make no sense to update it everytime you buy a book but not everytime you finish one

she's read 42% of her books 58% have gone unread, she must be aware of this but yet continues buying books before clearing the backlog clearly she does read but she's also massively insecure and wants to try and alter people perception of her

Chances are pretty high she doesn't read books at all. Her account looks like that of the typical 'influencer' who markets a well-demarcated demographic of followers to her advertising customers. In this case: literally people interested in the aesthetics of books read by a woman wearing trendy socks (i.e., people with disposal income and the inclination to buy for the kind of trinkets she's hawking).

If you feel inclined to dwell on her a bit more you can probably glean her long-term strategy from her photos. She might be looking to build up her account to look attractive for publishers to have her push their books (which probably means mass-produced YA crap with fancy covers).

Meh, who cares. Nothing wrong with a small unassuming paperback of some or other classic work of literature hiding between two gaudy hardcovers; it makes a bookcase interesting.

I'm more bothered by that bible; I just can't tell if he's trolling or genuinely considers it on par with some of the other books in there.

>On colour-based arrangement of books
There's absolutely nothing wrong with colour arranging a bookshelf unless they are reference works, or if you have a good enough memory to remember the colour of every book you have.

>On the content of the bookshelf
There is no need for everyone to read academic books or the classics if they are not interested in them. I think Harry Potter and Twilight are trash (which might be the result of my edgy teenage years and my mind being poisoned by proto-4channel) but I am glad I think so. I am also glad people read trash books so at least the book industry is alive and well.

What does this even mean?
Ignoring the fact the book isn't even Dosto's from what I can tell, are you saying there's a more reputable or equally high level author there than/as Dostoevsky? Or are you just a fucking faggot desperate to fit in without a fucking clue what he's saying? Point to another good author in the picture. There's no reasonable point behind your post if you can't.
