Why did Hemingway, Twain, Plath and a many more of authors used to write exclusively with typewriters?
Is there a particular advantage of them over pen and paper?

>> No.12347168

Because they didn't have computers.

typewriters are way more cumbersome than you’d think

just do all of your brainstorming and groundwork with pen and paper and then come to the comp.

pens are for writing, computers for typing

I just feel like words do not flow unobstructively while I am writing staring at a computer screen. I dunno why this happens, is it just me?

Get the oldest and shittiest laptop you can find. Physically remove the wifi card (it will be removable in an old laptop). Delete everything except your word processor. Write.

Nothing more obstructive than running out of an ink ribbon.

It's not just you. Computer screens change the way we engage with and process information.
That's why e-readers (electronic ink) and books are superior to screens when reading longform pieces.

what do you mean by 'change'? You mean it impedes with the creative flow?

If you are practised at it, typing allows you to write more quickly and legibly than pen and paper. Of course the most important thing is to write, no matter which way you find to be the most comfortable for you. Never mind how others approach it, follow your own muse. Isaac Asimov always wrote in longhand, for example, at a time when typewriters were ubiquitous...
