12411813 No.12411813 [Reply] [Original]

Is Jung's concept of synchronicity real or bunk? I've heard of numerous stories involving strange coincidences, and believe that causality isn't logically necessary (Hume.) But are these coincidences enough to force us to reconstruct our empiricist worldview?

>> No.12413014

You can literally create your own synchronicities through divination. I've got a tarot diary full of recorded (and mostly verified) readings that I've done over the years. If you're a beginner, try casting the I Ching and see what it does for you.

Be warned that any skepticism on your part will probably void the process. Your own psychological state is a crucial component of synchronicity. You need an open mind, or outright belief, in order to do it successfully.

synchronicities happen when you unbound your pattern recognition machinery. You have to be careful tho, the rabbit hole can lead you anywhere

You need to understand that synchronicity is primarily a tool for healing schizophrenia - Jung himself said that it is very important to break the empiricist vision of the world in the patient. He himself healed his own psychosis through mysticism.

Synchronicity is confirmation bias. But what is important about it is that we give meaning to meaningless coincidences. Synchronicity doesn't exist "objectively" but it does exist "subjectively". I don't think this is what Jung thought but it's what I think.

>that synchronicity is primarily a tool for healing schizophrenia

i dont agree with this, synchronicity feels like schizophrenia, understanding synchronicity comes from within is what heals you

isn't getting digits here on 4chan a form of synchronicity? i've noticed that posts with repeating digits or patterns usually tend to have more relevant information or something more valuable to consider than a post without. also, started paying attention to repeating digits i was getting on the odometer of my car. there have been many occasions where i get in my car and when I notice repeating digits, it gives me some reassurance of the path i will travel.

--

last october, I took a mushroom trip at a concert that ended up getting rained out, had to go through my trip sitting in a tent. it definitely wasnt a pleasant trip, but it was incredible to be surrounded by rain and lighting, it was definitely a lesson in humility. one of the clearest things i remember from the trip was this image of a masked face. nothing about the mask was remarkable but i was struck by this masked figure: it wasn't attacking me, but i could feel a sinister gaze peering at me, i couldn't figure out its intentions.

--

fast forward to a couple days before xmas eve. i have yet another breakup with my partner, her mother once again comes to rescue her. in the days following her departure, i come across this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMvdR52nAfs).). as i watched the video, i started to become sick to my stomach, nearly had to turn it off. it wasn't just that the topic of the video seemed so relevant to my situation, but it was also the visuals that triggered such a visceral reaction in me, it brought me right back to the visions i was having back in that tent.

--

perhaps it doesn't matter how many miles are on my car or perhaps my hallucinations were typical of anyone on mind altering drugs. perhaps my noticing of these coincidences is also a coincidence as well. personally, however, I feel it would be a mistake to ignore these things or write them off as mere coincidence. there may be no reason to believe that these moments had any intrinsic meaning, but because i try to live meaningfully, i find these synchronicities to be little signs that everything is happening exactly as it should.

The objective/subjective distinction you make is nonsensical. You do not have direct, unmediated, or uncomplicated access to "objective" or material reality. It is always and everywhere mediated not simply by your awareness, but by the structures, dimensions, objects, whatever that shape the nature of that awareness itself. Ergo, it is impossible that the objective be true while the subjective false, since they are never actually separable.

jung spent a lot of time describing how shit feels, which could be interpreted as a first step to actually describing spirituality in a scientific way but, at the end of the day, he was just intuiting about shit.

They testify, I think, to pseudospirtuality, pseudoscience and sentimentality, as well as a general unwillingness to confront text or ideas in depth and instead a tendency to be preocupied by the most superficial renderings of writers (quotes) packaged neatly with cute pictures and typeface. It's not for serious people, any of this.

No. Old. Very old. I feel the fat of ages heaving down my bones. I sense the shadows of my boyhood dreams looming in the long halls of my pestilence. Nothing has been as I had hoped for. I eat at the table and there are 5 chairs, and only one diner, and I imagine a wife and three children among the empty ones, and the laughter that might shake me from the solipsistic rage of self destruction to which I'm lately bound, as if this heard heart might at last be saved by woman's love, and the approval of my aging father gained at last as we watch the kids play in the yard, and he slaps me on the knee and smiles ear to ear, and he points at me and says "just like me" and invests me of some paternal wisdom, "they grow up quick. Too quick. Cherish them" and the easy hugs and loving of their innocence relieves me of all the guilt I bear as some imperfect human, standing now amid the ruin of myself, all Hope's dashed and dreams reduced to delirium, as of bums afflicted with schizophrenia and dazzled by the brightness of being to the lurking of underground channels convoluted beyond the comprehension of men who keep their jobs for years.

just don’t become the singularity’s bitch like me. i was on the phone with my friend (fellow pisces) and i was telling her about how i’m scared of reality becoming corrupted by something unintelligible. the example i used was an octopus appearing on my bed. she told me to think about welcoming the universe’s volatile energy as if it were my own, because when i feel something out of balance i express it so that it evens out. i get off the horn and immediately i see this tweet: (Week of 1/13 in Pisces: Keep doing it. It’s going to be so ok. Keep doing the thing. Find an octopus.) and this comment: (translation: this isn’t the time to wallow in self pity or doubt. pay attention to signs from the universe like synchronicities that validate you’re on the right path! you’re doing good don’t hold yourself back. maybe for some of you this has to do with some form of writing.) there have been an abundance of signals similar to this throughout my life. i’d like to complete this “coincidence game” arc i’ve been playing but every time i seem to breakthrough to some plateau of stability the syncs keep flirting with me
