This isn't philosophy, though, it's either plain religious talk, which belongs on /his/, or it's about mythological gods being real, which belongs on /x/. You didn't even mention a book or a philosopher or anything like that, you just expect us to start debating a return to paganism without prompting it with any /lit/ content. This is a bad thread and it should be deleted.

When i was younger i was very deep into occultism. I had and still do have a disdain for the religions of Abraham. So, for a while i decided to become a pagan. I figured that the old gods wouldnt mind having someone visit them, maybe its been a while.
During this time i chose to worship the greek god of dreams "Morpheus". I decided that i would visit Morpheus through the practice of lucid dreaming.
I came up with this concept on my own and found it super exciting. I would actually be able to talk to a god, not be like some stupid faggot christian and pray to god.
Like litterrly fucking see a god. The god of dreams, in my dream.
So one night i lucid dream, and in the dream im in my house, and i walk outside. The dream world was an odd one, it was eternally cloudy and raining. So i leave the house and start walking down the street looking for Morpheus. Then i turn the corner and there is a pack of dogs, who then precede to attack me and tear me limb from limb.
Then i wake up.
Have not had a dream since then.
That was a few years ago.

>> No.12586512

I've been reading The Metamorphoses (about 40% of the way through), and really enjoying it.
But why does Jupiter keep raping virgins? Sure, the gods all have shortcomings, often being brash, unjust, petty, downright dumb at times - but Jupiter, despite being first among the gods, is the worst of them all. Does he not realize that his victims not only have to deal with the grief of having been deflowered before marriage, and occasionally becoming pregnant, but also have to face the wrath of Juno?
I first figured Juno was being unreasonable - why should she turn every girl and woman who had the misfortune of being born attractive to the eyes of the mightiest god in the Pantheon also have to be turned into some kind of bird? But the Procne/Philonela story makes it pretty clear that even being raped would be enough to paint you as your rapist's wife's enemy, a homewrecker, a mistress intent on destroying their family, so I chalked it up to a cultural difference. Not only that, but Juno can't exactly lash out at Jupiter, not only because he's her husband, but also because he's immensely powerful.
However, I don't think the issue of cultural difference extends so far as to cover all the intances of rape as being acceptable. Even though it seems to be taken much more lightly in the book than it is nowadays, it's still portrayed in a poor light. The most notable occurence is when Arachne decides to weave a series of occurences of gods deceiveing mortals, with the majority, if not all of them, being accounts of rape, mostly prepetrated by Jupiter, as a way to insult their cohort and her competitor, Minerva - and it was effective, too.

I don't think many occultists would outright deny the existence of God, or at least a deity, but there's a wide array of peculiar views about how that God relates to man. And to be called occult, that usually means that your theology is in some way contradictory to traditional Christian doctrine. But even "atheists who believe in magic" could fall into the occult category. It's an umbrella term.

Christianity is about removing your self from worldy desires, it's not as simple as "passion".
Removing your desires shows how flawed we as humans are because it's extremely difficult to remove them. To paraphrase Saint Paul "dying every day" is just as painful and hard to commit to as real sacrifice.

Huh? We're talking about occultism, sweaty. Occultists often drastically reframe God's character to the point that they are no longer talking about the same God. Their views cannot be accounted for in traditional Christian theology and thus they are not Christian.
