I've only read some of his linguistics related books. I enjoyed Words and Rules especially, probably more so than the Language Instinct, and I don't see much point in reading both of them since there's so much overlap. I think he is one of those writers who is good at presenting his field to a general audience in an engaging way. I think he's mostly wrong about Wharf/linguistic determinism though.

Can anyone speak to the content of "Better Angels of Our Nature"? What is he arguing, and how does he support that argument? I'd like to give it a read, because I don't really understand the natures of peoples' complaints about it.

People who don’t like it claim that he ignores inconvenient facts and that it’s statistical basis is questionable, if not fallacious—that it’s essentially a liberal “white legend.”
