Stirner is the guy you brought home. Hegel is your dad. He goes out with you and your family to dinner. You guys are around the table and Stirner is talking and talking. You guys listen kindly as he jabbers to your family about all his opinions. You attentively look to your dad every now and then to gauge his reaction, but he seems to either be not listening, lost in thought, or listening but still more concentrated on his food. The bill comes and your dad takes out his wallet to pay, Stirner not even saying thank you. stirner predicted the shitstorm but he did not overcome hegel. of course as a student, trying to overcome his education is futile. he instead drew up a simplistic metaphysical blueprint that could apply to anyone of any background as a way of cultivating possibilities that did not contain what we now call the tar baby spectacle. and no, people who call themselves stirnerites do not get him at all. a sternerite is still a hegelian.
