1358711 No.1358711 [Reply] [Original]

So my brain finally told me to start reading this on a damp Tuesday.

So i'm going to 'evaluate.. more like just type out some random sentences on my thoughts' about this book every chapter at a time.

Already finished chapter 1, so thats incoming.. i'll leave 5 minutes after every chapter i read, thats if you want to read along, pace being 'normal' reading in your head, as it is.

:)

(P.S The soundtrack is Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, if you dont have it, why the fuck not.)

K so it starts with a page and a bit of instantly forgettable text like every book, introducing the area, setting etc.. first few characters, nice start to build on. Then goes into detail explaining they're sort of 7/8 years old, find a house who the characters are scared of, and Jemmy get's dared to tap the house, she does, and That ends chapter 1.

Caps Guy, calm the fuck down..

So Jem goes to school.. i now realize Jem is about 4/5 years old and D is 8. Jem's obviously intelligent, and Cunningham is the village idiot. The teacher was probably fit as fuck, but i wont cheapen it, she's being told what to do by the man, making everybody be at the same level, keeping equality within the white classroom.

>> No.1358759

narrative position seems to have switched to Jeb's sister Scout, as Ive just noticed.

Introduces a few new characters, including the evil dirty smelly kid that sits at the back who has authority over the teacher.. respect to the man. teacher breaks down in tears, Scout gets told off, Jeb stays in a tree house for a day.

(This is a new record for me, getting this far is a present)

So eventually.. its summer, and Narrator, Scout, finds some gum in a tree, nice little idea.. i hope this book is getting somewhere.
The midget kid comes back and plays with them as a trio again, Jeb and Scout fins more gum in the tree, and discuss Radley's house.. A.K.A The Evil House.
Scout ends up on the doorstep, and Jeb comes up with a game.. so they start playing the game day to day.. so much fun that would have been, few N words here and their. Ends with Jeb being told off for using scissors.

>> No.1360430

Little Scout has a nice conversation with Mr's M who seems old and caring..
Then Jeb and the village idiot have a plan to give a letter to Arthur A.K.A The Hermit, but it doesn't exactly work and they all get told of.

I wonder what happens next, oh boy the excitement.

why don't you acquire yourself an easy mode critical literature theory book and try looking at the text focusing on a certain point.

i suggest Nicholas and Royale's introduction to critical literary theory, purely for the great format.

then you can justify a close reading of the text and what you drew from it properly.

where's your trip? why haven't you been to the tinychat? what did you and God speak about in the meet up? where did you go for coffee? what's your favourite battles song?
i know the answer to all those questions faggot.

>Seriously you expect mogwai to post a

actually all i expect from Mogwai is for him NOT to just tell us what happens chapter by chapter, i'd rather he give some personal opinion than, for example:
"K so it starts with a page and a bit of instantly forgettable text like every book, introducing the area, setting etc.. first few characters, nice start to build on. Then goes into detail explaining they're sort of 7/8 years old, find a house who the characters are scared of, and Jemmy get's dared to tap the house, she does, and That ends chapter 1"

that's pointless info that we don't need or want to know.

>i just think you're always so quick to show off your english skillz for some reason.

i wasn't actually showing off any "skillz" all i did was ask him to approach this thread in a different way whilst recommending him a pretty good book on literary theory.

you're never going to stand up to the real tybrax, tybrax even stopped posting with just his trip, and you seem to think people will believe that you "forgot it"

you're jumping on the bandwagon of celebrity all the anons complain about with tripfriends, that they attention whore etc, not only are you trying to emulate tybrax, you're failing spectacularly.

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle:

>Y'know what? I give up. I'm never going to finish this. I don't think Murakami's a hack, and I know that everybody except me thinks he's a genius, and I also understand- or, more specifically, have had it angrily explained to me- that my dislike for Murakami has to do with me being an American asshole who can't see through her own cultural imperialism enough to appreciate the way Japanese people like Murakami write novels. I acknowledge all these things.

>But at the same time, nothing about this works for me. I'm not excited about a bland everyman; I'm not interested in an atmosphere where literally anything could happen, but mostly what does is that people say vague things to him; I'm not sucked in by the occasionally exposited backstory. I know! I should be able to go along with the vague sense of unease, but it just doesn't do anything for me. I mean, probably it's a very culturally Japanese sort of unease that doesn't speak to me, but 200 pages in, I'm just like, whatever. So whatever. I give up.
