What are some cool nonfiction books that follow the history of one object or subject or whatnot?

My mom's super into books that follow the origin and history of a specific topic. I.e. history of the penis, history of books, history of colour, etc.

I need to come up with a Christmas gift to buy her ten minutes before I give it to her, and this is a hard topic to search for.
Anything related to 'the history of books' will help, too, as that's her favourite.

Pic related.

I am now accepting any advice on books my mom would like.

She has a PHD in Religious Studies, a diverse background in art history and native studies, and prefers weird and whacky takes on history/the world. Also is the matriarch of a large family and loves books on motherhood n'shiiit.

She gave me one book idea. It sucked and I don't want to get her said book. Not to mention it cost $30, you can only buy it online, and I'm broke and only have until Saturday.
