Well Werther is pretty fixated on Lotte, he is very idealistic about art, nature, life, everything. He is kind of socially anxious, even though he is liked, just he feels remorse and embarassment tenfold when there's a faux-pas, which is the same as most people with anxiety, and therefore he likes to spend a lot of time walking alone.

You're not supposed to relate 100% of course, because Willhelm, his good friend provides an unspoken voice of reason that is meant to be inferred by the reader through Werther's reaction.

Give it a read regardless.
