Will Duolingo help me read Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Popper and Wittgenstein in the originals?

Duolingo is a pretty meh app, so no. Get an Assimil book for German.

Reading a book in German using a German-English Dictionary would be faster than learning the whole German language.

If your priority is to read the language, German for reading by sandberg is your best bet. I used the French one and had success with it. Duolingo should only ever be used as a supplement.

I did duolingo german for a month or so once
It was fine as a basic introduction to basic grammar and vocab but thats about it. I found it didnt handle explaining gendered words very well and that made it frustrating. After a few weeks there was a steep increase in difficulty and amount of dedication required.
Probably not worth.

Duolingo helped me learn Spanish but I imagine that their Spanish course is the best one since it's fucking Spanish

BTW, what's the best Arabic literature (other than the Quran)?
Half of my family is Arab so I'd like to have that connection, and maybe some literature would be a good side-effect

they have a story feature on it now that i find pretty decent. taking courses at uni is probably the most helpful however, and is what im doing right now. i am going to skip over a german class because of what i learned from duolingo, so duo did indeed help.

The best way to learn a language is to move to a country where thats the dominant language. Total immersion in the language forces you to learn it, and there are always native speakers who can help you.

true, but that's currently out of my budget :x

I'm living in Germany right now and I've learned like 5 words. You will still need outside help

Duolingo will help you waste a fuckload of time and never learn a thing

I want to try and read some Kierkegaard. Does anyone know what works I should start with? I'm asking because I remember back in college that many of the students were always talking about Nietzsche. So I thought I would read a work by some other philosopher and I've already read Pluto's Dialogues, the ones that have Socrates speaking as well as some Epictetus(although I haven't finished reading his book).

The hate duolingo gets is undeserved. It's a great tool for a beginner who supplements his learning with other tools. It wont make you fluent but is worth the time as long as you are not grinding the same exercises.
