the only place uni matters is a) if it concretely gets you a job or life that you want, and b) if you're an upper middle class american nouveau riche who still talks about how he want to fucking harvard for 4 years when he's 40 like it means anything or has any more uniqueness than "i lived in cambridge MA for a while at an age when i was barely sentient"

college-reminiscers and lifelong ALUMNI are on par with people who still vividly reminisce about high school drama when they're 30, like what the fuck are you doing?

even people with fancy phds from ritzy universities are more often than not quiet about them, because guess what, a fancy phd from a ritzy university doesn't even guarantee you a job anymore. i know people with ivy league phds in their 30s who work at shitty startups or similar silicon valley benefitless "gig economy" garbage, how often do you think they brag about having a phd? never, because it doesn't look cool to be a phd when you're just some random 30something out in the world, it looks embarrassing because the immediate followup question is "why did the womb of academia spit you out then, why are you here answering emails about an app that tracks your nofap progress"

so not even a phd is worth bragging about, why would a BA be? and what is it to actually get the BA, it's four years of being a preppy little homo. it's not even like the old days where they still taught real things, now it's so bad, it's like a summer camp more than anything. none of these little rainbow skittle diversity wiener kids are getting some kind of hermione granger harry potter education: zoomer edition, they are zoomers: zoomer edition. it's an extension of their low-% black high school experience, it's one 4-year-long tweet.

university and academia was maybe worth pining after still in the 70s but now it's like an unimaginable farce, yeah it can still open doors and yeah like i said it can concretely improve your chances of concretely landing some actual position, but the mere experience of having gone to some summer camp full of wiener kids with too much FUCKING GEL IN THEIR HAIR means nothing, nor does the piece of paper it provides

I used to party at Harvard with friends who went there. The campus is fun to walk around on when it's deserted over Christmas break.

yikes, read Humboldt.
University ought to be an institution to enable you to grow yourself as a person. It shouldn't be related to "job" in any way, that's a capitalist subversion of it.

Damn, I remember when I used to think like this. Super cringe.
Fact is, if you don't have a degree, your life is going to be shitty. I know you're walking on that get rich quick scheme, and you list your occupation on Facebook as "entrepreneur" but everyone knows all of this is just masking the fact you're a fucking loser. If you're still in your 20s, it's not too late to go back to school. But if you're older, then you fucked up big time and you're probably going to die in an alley with a syringe in one hand your cock in another.

I went to a good uni but i got a bullshit humanities degree like an idiot so it was a waste of money. What you study and who you know are vastly more important.

Partied at MIT too. Can confirm they have the best parties. Which was a shock to me when I first found out about that.
Can also definitely confirm about the less attractive part.

I was thinking of doing a phd mainly because I don't know what to do and I don't think I'm qualified enough to start working. Thing is I feel like that kind of locks you into academia (which I personally want to avoid from my experience with it) unless you choose something marketable- which for me at least I don't want to because I don't want to spend 3 years (and then the rest of my life) doing something shit

Your worth is actually defined by how much money you have.
Ofc you are more likely to become a millionaire if you graduate from a prestigious university however this is due to networking and something tells that isn't even the case anymore due to the internet.
