Define Art

>> No.14825861

Can be experienced but not defined.

>> No.14825864

If you don't know, I can't define.

Just read Aristotle's Poetics and the logical conclusions of that will lead you in the right direction- but you will never understand art if you do not now at least have some authentic intuit.

Art (tekhne) according to the Greeks is anything that is produced, from ships to shoes to songs to plays. Romantic faggots twisted the meaning to only mean the arts of the beautiful (beaux arts), and post-modernists further twisted it into meaning everything=nothing.

>> No.14825903

You know there's an art board, right?

>> No.14825908

>>14825901
Better yet the classics twisted it into meaning only the beautiful, and the romantics only that which expresses muh feelings. Finally arriving at the piss Christ and vomit painting. Look how humanity is evolving! So progressive!

>the progression of the definition of the word art into specific category of the beautiful and specifically what we now call artistic is the reason why art is now ugly and has no value is completely general and artificial rather than specific and authentic
genius.

Yes, which word doesn’t mean change from one thing to another and then never changing anymore. I’m embarrassed to have to explain this, but I forget underage and special people post on this board.

Art is something that causes awe and inspiration to surge up within the viewer. Art is merely a subjective concept.

That's not deep ya fucking idiot.

>>14825951
Can you not speak properly? Do you not know fucking grammar? What are you even saying in this post anon?

You applied a negative to the defining of the artistic.

I would generally say art is using a visual-medium, typically, to convey an idea.

However, per my definition, someone waving or flipping someone off is art. So, I'm unsure.

I will say that art DOESN'T need to invoke emotion in the viewer; it DOESN'T need meaning beyond what is conveyed; it DOESN'T need to be "beautiful." Meaningless, emotionless, ugly art is... well, it's still art.

I hate definitions, because that's not how language works. We didnt invent the concept of art and devopled arts out of it. We start writing music, and painting and so forth and we liked these things so made a name for it that being art, it's a descriptive man made word not an actual object that one can treat like an object.

Its why I hate a lot of philosophy fags and people like john cage "wHaT Is MUsiC?" Music is a word we use to describe a tradation we've had of listening and playing instruments and singing and other stuff, it's just the word we use to refer to this activity, you stretching the limits of the word to make it refer to something entirely different to this tradation is not a great discovery it's not changing reality, it's just being an idiot.
