>His focus had everything to do with (the Russianess if his characters.)
You were good for the first sentence. Dosto heavily incorporates the then current events of Russia into his writing, but he doesn't aim to write a Russian novel in any sense. If you read Dosto and think that he's aiming to deal with Russian characteristics you've completely lost the plot.
>>15349690
>Myshkin's world would change entirely
The entire point of Myshkin is that he leaves his home country to be treated then return. So no, if the novel is set in England it would still open with him returning to the town on a train.

I disagree with this. He is writing a story about Russians, but he is not writing a story for Russians. That is an important difference, in my opinion.

Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart, Ngogi wa Thiongo's I Will Marry When I Choose (it's a play, but a good one), and Dambudzo Marechera's House of Hunger are also pretty good. My favorite of all of these is the last one, for reasons I'm unable to explain. Read it and you'll see why it's good.

Which is pretty limiting for the minorities themselves. Sometimes I wonder if SJWs like that guy just want them to always be kept down so that they can always be their savior.

For real though, there's a lot of implicit pressures for African-American authors to always write about the "black experience" for two reasons:
1. y'all are still racist as shit so you are contributing to their own hyperawareness of blackness by trying to shoot them all the damn time
2. the liberal publishing houses actively push SJW-type works and force it down everyone's throats
If you want good black authors that don't talk about them being black, you'll have to look at African novels. Chinua Achebe is a great place to start, I've read a few of his novels back in college and they're interesting and quite poetic. I've heard that Tsitsi Dangarembga and Wole Basedinka are very god but I haven't read them.

This is UNIRONICALLY correct. Illiteracy was a huge part of the black experience in early America. If we’re talking about slave narratives, I believe songs capture the experience better than writing. If we really talking post-Slavery black American experience then nevermind.
