I've seen some comparisons of Miles and Tyrion mainly because they're two of the very few (perhaps only) major characters in remotely mainstream SFF with dwarfism, though I don't really see the similarities on the personality level beyond the most superficial.

That said, the Vorkosigan Saga is critically acclaimed for a reason.

>In Cold War England, Professor Henry Lytten, having renounced a career in espionage, is writing a fantasy novel that dares to imagine a world less fraught than his own. He finds an unlikely confidante in Rosie, an inquisitive young neighbor who, while chasing after Lytten's cat one day, stumbles through a doorway in his cellar and into a stunning and unfamiliar bucolic landscape—remarkably like the fantasy world Lytten is writing about. There she meets a young boy named Jay who ...

Well they both are born into rich royal families.
They both live under the shadow of their father's brilliance.
They both are geniuses in their own right.
They are both military minded, and fight when it's required of them. Even if they can't be very effective in battle.
They both rely on their quick wits and silver tongue in order to gain power over people.
And speaking of power, they are both addicted to it.
They both have a way of recruiting people to their cause. Actually making loyal subjects and friends, rather than untrustworthy allies.
They both have an early love that they lost.
They both endure hatred from the prejudices people have toward their deformity.>>15392991

There is. And it's addressed in the book as to why Miles is the way he is. I can't get into particulars without spoiling stuff. But suffice to say: Science can only go so far, until you start asking moral questions.

Well there is actually "Korean plastic surgeons in SPACEEE".
But it's still not enough to fix his dwarfism. I'll explain some since you say you're not going to read it. But I'll avoid details, in case you change your mind in the future.
Basically, dwarfism IS extremely rare in the future. Mile's condition is extremely exceptional. There was an event that affected his growth in the womb. And he wouldn't have lived at all if it wasn't for future space science. He does get some things fixed over time, Synthetic bones and the like. But korean space science hasn't figured out how to completely overhaul the body quite yet. And in fact, the lack of this technology is a huge point of contention in Mirror Dance.

As the only way to sustain one's life, is to transfer one's brain into another body. So there is a black market of clones, specifically bred to be the vessels of affluent buyers. These clones are made and sculpted to be prettier, more powerful, and overall just better human beings.(Within realism. They're not super men. Just extremely perfected humans. Their aging is accelerated, so the clients only have to wait about 10 years before their vessel is ready for transfer. So basically, you're killing off 10 year olds in order to replace your body and beat aging. There is also that old dilemma where you don't die in the transfer process. And that someone who thinks exactly like you has awakened into consciousness, while the real you is no longer.

Tyrion was never perfect. But he was generally an ok guy at the start of the book. He's simply changed over the course of the story. It isn't some weird fight club type twist that puts everything in a new perspective. He was alright, if morally gray, then bad things happened, and it turned him into a worse guy than he use to be.

Oh yeah, one specific thing about clones. It's mostly inconsequential, but I'm going to spoiler it anyway:
There was one clone in particular, who was said to look about 20 with MASSIVE tits. Like, Bujold kept emphasizing how big her tits were. How they couldn't even fit in the uniform she was assigned. And how she had to grab them awkwardly just to do anything. The tits were still relatively new to her, as they were added only three weeks before she shows up in the story.
The catch is, she's probably only 10 years old. And she thought she was 1 day away from meeting her mother. When in fact, she was 1 day away from brain transfer. It was very uncomfortable how much Bujold kept describing her incredible beauty and her natural feminine perfume, and her garment defying tits sloshing around. And then reminding us that she's only 10 years old. Like, honestly, what was the point of this character? Just to make my boner confused?

I don't know what that is.
But September Carrino's tits are nice, considering their size. She loses some points because her face isn't good. She legit has macromatasia though. As her boobs continue to grow well into adulthood. She started as a playboy model, when her tits were just normal-big. Then they kept growing to a size that exceeds playboys standards, and so she started her own site. The picture I posted is at least 5 years old now. Maybe 10. so I have to wonder how big they are today. Anyway they used to be perky before they kept growing. But even at their mega size, they're still holding up well. With relatively minimal sag and big gumdrop nipples. Look at them yourself. Coogle "september carrino nude"

>those just look like a huge mess hangging almost to her navel.
When boobs are big enough, they simply run out of space. Being near the navel isn't necessarily a shape problem. It just means that they take up the whole "canvas" or their chest so to speak. Here, I made a graph. The mass of the tits aren't dropping, They're just taking up more space, for their sheer size. Which of course, means they're closer to the navel.

That being said, I have a few questions:
1) What people? Warriors, scholars, simple peasants, none of the above? The social dynamics of Middle ages, or better yet the American liberal politically correct version of it has kinda been done to death already.
2) How come they can travel to this mystical place of dwarves? I don't know just how fantastic (or not) you intend to go but the standard historical fiction intertwined with fantastical elements has been done to death.

>muh originality
Absolutely retarded notion, more so when all you're whining about is the setting while knowing nothing more.
I could read hundreds of books on 19th century France. Hell, there are hundreds of books with that setting. Complaining about the lack of originality in that regard is Goodreads YA reading tier dumbness.
I would also read hundreds of books on a carbon copy of Middle Earth, provided the writing was good enough and the narrative explored unique ideas or perspectives, say the life of a balrog, or some elven messenger lost when travelling between human settlements. Idk.
You are correct in only one prejudice, and it's that fantasy writers may come up with original settings or reuse the genre's aesthetics and ideas, but write awful shit that's formulaic in dialogue and plot structure.

It depends. I might. When I was in high school, one of the hottest girls I've ever seen was in the special needs group. They would sit in on some of normal classes, and she kept batting her eyes at me. I was tempted. Hell, the whole school was tempted. But she showed me special attention, to the point where the special needs handler was trying to control her.
She would come to school dressed in tight black dresses and heels. It was bizarre. She wasn't like fully tarded. But there was an empty headedness about her that you don't see in other women. Like if you asked her what she was thinking about, she would say "nothing", and it would really be nothing. But she was poised and smoking hot, and spoke well. She didn't have the tard speech.

Anyway... I might. Just maybe. But she was still my age technically. She wasn't actually 10 years old. That's just too weird.

>Miles is clever, but moralistic
Tyrion was moralistic up until the point when everyone turned against him. They tarnishing his character. Tried to get his executed. Stole the whore he loved. And then to top it all off, the one person he thought he could trust most let him believe his one *true* love didn't love him. THEN, he became a more sinister character.

>stern and a romantic
Tyrion was both of these things. His romantic side allowed him to believe a whore loved him. He wanted their love to be true so bad, that he deluded himself.

>who lets his first love go out of pure, well, love
This is wrong. You're probably misremembering. But Miles learned that Elena was in love with someone else, and still tried to pull her. He was REFUSED. He did not "let go". In fact, even the insinuation that Miles had a say in her love life would be very upsetting to Elena.

>Tyrion is crass, vulgar, hedonistic and scheming
ok, there are some differences here. But Miles is SUPER scheming. That's his ENTIRE CHARACTER. He schemes. He's always thinking of every possibility, every detail. Miles is a control freak.

And let's not forget in his first book, he was abusing some stimulant. I forget what it was exactly. But Miles was handed a drink, and it kept him awake. He was going through some kind of manic episode.

a lot of chinkshit is just so generic and bland and thoughtless, has nothing inherently to do with it being written by bugmen, its just that theyre paid by wordcount and the bar is really low. I can't reccommend reverend insanity enough as it has a unique power system, well developed side characters that arent cardboard cutouts that run at the mc just so they can get btfo, and actual thought put into it.

to give you an idea of how based it is its currently on hiatus because its almost overtly critical of the chinese government at times (theres a part where the mc uses a cultural revolution tactics to make slaves work themselves to death). If it bothers you that the main character is such an insect keep in mind that to succeed in such a corrupt system you sort of can't be moral, which I think is part of the reason hes so evil. I also really like cradle and would honestly only put it behind reverend insanity in how much I enjoyed it. I've read a lot of chinkshit but there are basically none others that stand out at all in that way. The only issue is due to it being banned its currently on hiatus while the author rights his next novel, although hes said if they dont unban it on the website for chinkshit novels he'll still finish it but just not make any money off of it. Even with it still being translated I strongly reccommend it.

I've read most of the novels the second guy you replied to reccommended and a few (otherworldly evil monarch, sovereign of the three realms) are terrible and you will probalby hate them.

I actually reread the first chapter again today, it's amazing how many clues are crammed in there that you just completely gloss over on first reading.

>I would have hidden, but Roche held me, saying, “Wait, I see pikes.”
>“Do you think it’s the guard returning?”
>He shook his head. “Too many.”
>“A dozen men at least,” Drotte said.

Then a couple of lines later...

>but they had pikes, as Drotte had said

and...

>Someone cursed, and the leader and two others sprinted after Eata, but he was too fleet for them.
and
>The man with the key had dropped his lantern when he ran after Eata, and there were only two left.

Severian immediately writes that Roche made the comment about the pikes, and then says it was Drotte. And he writes that Drotte saw at least a dozen men, then says that after three go after Eata there are two left. There's a lot more than just that in the first chapter as well. I didn't want to commit to a full reread though, it seems like it'd be mentally exhausting to pay close attention to absolutely everything.

Even if it's ripped off (e.g., when the crusade marches on, I could picture that sprawling scene in Kingdom of Heaven with the sprawling of knights and banner), there's some effort put into the setting. Granted, there's some drop in quality after the third book, and the camp setting doesn't exactly allow for much originality.
Abercrombie, either deliberarely of through ineptitude, couldn't be more generic in world building, and as such it's 100% forgettable.

Gravity's Rainbow and Infinite Jest have some of that. Honestly I would read more Wolfe if I were you. Wizard Knight has a lot of linked mystery elements (there is a theory that the entire story is in the womb and the main character is slowly eating his twin). Long Sun has fewer than New, but Short sun has the most I would say. The intricacy of mystery in Short Sun is really impressive. Wolfe guesses where your mind will go with his references and plays off of them to create a beautiful web. Agia says in New Sun something like "I'm not good at solving puzzles, but I'm good at creating them for other people." You could view Wolfe as speaking through her there. If you are looking for similar webs, the original Deus Ex game and MGS are pretty good for that stuff too.

Spoken like a true readlet. If you were intelligent and read more, you would have known that Sanderson saying that magic would be consistent in some ways saved fantasy. I can't say enough how I hated it when an author wrote himself into a corner, then insulted his readers by pretending like everything he wrote before didn't happen by taking a fat wet shit in our faces to get his ending.
Having consistent magic forces the author into finishing their works by using what they laid down before. Sanderson made a lot of authors mad because he gained popularity with his laws, which means that they would stop swallowing their deus ex machina.

No. I was asking you to explain your point. 4chan throws an awful lot of Latin phrases out there thinking it makes them sound intelligent. It doesn't. Also, at the end of the day the writer always holds all the cards. He wants to make some character OP? Well, he might design a necessary rule set in order to achieve that. The resolution for some scene requires a certain twist to make it more interesting or awe inspiring? He can always rewrite the rules during his writing process and you'd be none the wiser. Or, if it's too late (say, a poorly planned sequel) you can always move every single plot piece to achieve a realistic resolution with the rules you already set for yourself.
To be satisfied because it feels like less of deus ex machina and it's well constructed is just silly.

fuck it, I'll bite. Magic having explicit rules isn't inherently bad, but as >>15403880 pointed out, it loses any sort of mystique or flair that makes magic appealing to many fantasy readers; considering the definition of magic is "the power of apparently influencing events by using mysterious or supernatural forces." I feel inclined to agree that sometimes less is more, in terms of magical exposition.
Another problem with this kind of system is that the story now HAS to be about this magic system. It can't be a thing in the background that serves to enrich the characters or the setting, now the plot has to be about the magic system, or the amount of time explaining the magic system is wasted. With a story, you do want to set things up before having them pay off with a satisfying conclusion, but having every facet of a magic system explains also makes predicting the plot really easy, seeing as the story is now about the magic. Though I agree with you to an extent, claiming that these cut and dry magic systems "saved fantasy" is fucking absurd.
