Not exactly. I don't believe in that tulpa bullshit. The characters only exist in my writing and in my imagination. I could write them differently than I imagine them being, but it'd be shitty writing. My best work with them comes when I keep the written them as true as possible to the imagined them.

sometimes i find the safest thing to do is to write about a writer writing characters, that way, even if the characters get away from the writer, they still cannot do a great amount of damage to the story, as the writer himself is still within my grasp and it is easier to control one character than it is to control a whole host of them, who may seek to interact in ways that i perceive are detrimental
