So, /lit/, I love dystopian novels. The Road, 1984, (Or anything Orwell wrote), Fahrenheit 451, and The Children of Men are my favorite novels at the moment.

Any reccomendations like them?

Haha I have. It was sick as hell. Sequel was kinda disspointing IMO.

But thanks, I'll check out Bradbury and Dick, I've read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep too and really liked it.

I'll check out the Huxley one, but I know Orwell thought he plagerised it, did he?

no, huxley's presentation of the future although superficially similar is ideologically distinct.

Orwell: we will be pacified by a dictator
Huxley: we pacify ourselves with novelty

No, I mean Orwell thought he took it from another novel, not one that Orwell wrote. I think it was called We or something
Maybe I'm wrong, could easily be the case.

The two are similar, but Huxley didn't plagiarize

"Oryx and Crake" and "Handmaid's Tale" by Atwood are both good.

Try "We" by Evgeny Zamyatin, this guy inspired Orwell, and i like him more than any of those you've mentioned.

I'm reading Oryx and Crake right now. It's good, but why all the two-page chapters?

Why don't I ever see recommendations for Utopian literature? Why you gotta be so pessimistic, lit?

Yeah, I'm gonna check him out

That has a ton of bad books, frankly, and I was hoping for a form of differentiation.

Dystopian are more interesting? It fits my mindset more. But do you know any great utopian novels?

It's really good, but when you realize it was written in 1920 it definitely adds something. Here's the whole thing in pdf: http://mises.org/books/we_zamiatin.pdf
