The first-ever Thomas Pynchon movie adaptation has been green-lighted.

It will start shooting once Paul Thomas Anderson finalizes the adapted screenplay.

Not the first ever adaptation of Pynchon - there's a German film (can't remember its name) based on Gravity's Rainbow.

So a writer of silly, incomprehensible yet largely amazing books gets adapted by the maker of silly, incomprehensible and largely pointless films.

Close enough for Hollywood.

Also,
>adapting anything Thomas Pynchon has ever written into a screenplay

I heard that Penguin was shopping the film rights to the book when it was published.
All well and good, but Anderson will have to deal with people comparing it to The Big Lebowski.

Have you read Inherent Vice? It's probably the most straightforward, easily understood, and adaptable thing he's ever written.

>> No.1551959

This has much to do with Inherent Vice being the only one that's actually filmable.

>> No.1551961

>>1551959
Well... I think they could do an adaptation of The Crying of Lot 49 too, but I'd say Inherent Vice is a bit easier.
