I finished pic related a few days ago. I think my bar for literature has risen. I'm a bit of a /lit/ pleb but I legitimately don't know what book will satisfy me after this. With their linear plots and such... help me guys. Do I read more RAW, check out Joyce, or is this a dark path I'm going down

I've been meaning to read this.

OP, if this book were a musician, who would it be?

>> No.15717050

Fucking loved this book. Pretty nuts how they managed to replicate the experience of acid-tripping with the way it was written.

In rap terms A$AP Rocky with a bit of Earl Sweatshirt, in rock terms Beck or Muse without the drama, in electronic terms The Prodigy or anything out of the UK from the 90s. These are kind of shallow metaphors, though. It pushes the medium of writing to the edge in a way where metaphors of other mediums fall apart.

It really does, perfectly. They are clearly no strangers to the experience there. They got the bad trips the good trips and the revelatory trips down just right. I'm not sure if I would like liked the way it was written if I weren't familiar with that way of thinking, but since I am and I crave it every single page was a treat.

This is literally one of the most reddit books there is. It's there with Vonnegut and Hitchhiker's Guide.

Fucking embarassing.

"Reddit" isn't a meaningful criticism.

Can you say something about the book besides putting it in categories which hold meaning to you and you alone?

This looks like it was even inspired by it, I'm definitely interested. The more /x/ the better.

How can this incoherent garbage raise the bar for you ? What where you reading before HP ?
Even the author admits writing it as a joke with his friend. Just haming it up chapter afther chapter to see how retarded it can get.

You're gonna love Thomas Pynchon

>> No.15718449

It’s essentially baby’s first Pynchon, not that it’s bad, but it’s not really for mature readers, it’s better for people only just starting to read interesting books (i.e. teenagers) you should try reading TCOL49 and V. (especially V.) now, you’ll probably enjoy it as the aspects of the book you describe as enjoyable make Pynchon perfect for you.
Pretentious anons can take themselves too seriously and brutally attack things which are not of the very best. You are a bit of a pleb given how radically special this book seemed to you but you show great willingness to improve and I’m sure you will enjoy a great deal more literature.

90s Beck more than Muse given that the book is stylish and fun if immature, enjoyed mainly by teenage boys, rather than Muse which is sterile, extremely trite and enjoyed mainly by narcissistic overweight homosexual women (like Harry Potter).

Well that does it for me, Pynchon is up next. V. specifically seems interesting.

Did you finish it on the 23d as well? I just wrapped it up after reading Prometheus Rising. I recommend checking out his nonfiction for more perspective on why he wrote Illuminatus the way he did.

An Illuminatus easter egg of sorts: The last word(s) of every "trip" (chapter) is a step in creation. "Point, line, plane, solid, motion, unify the forces, The End, Rebirth, The One God, The earth below him cracked."
I find more each time I reread it.

I had read Prometheus Rising first and it's pretty great. Definitely primes you for his way of thinking. I didn't finish it on the 23rd, but the action climaxed then.

i read this after illuminatus and it’s better. for more RAW, read Cosmic Trigger, which is also better than the illuminatus trilogy
