If truth is what you seek, then the examined life will only take you on a long ride to the limits of solitude and leave you by the side of the road with your truth and nothing else.

What exactly makes this book so depressing?

If im already aware humans are shit, children get raped en masse, nihilism is rampant, women are whores, modern men are weak shits.

What could this possibly do to make my outlook darker ?

Honestly I read this book and didn’t think it was all that scary or enlightening. Even if the world is deterministic I don’t really care. I’m privileged in that I’m happy though.

I guess it’s nightmare fuel for people who think they can never be happy doing anything?

The even bother reading it you already have to fit into that category. there's no way someone happy would read it and suddenly be inconsolably depressed. People will have you believe that's because they "just don't get it man" but the reality is world view is heavily based on personality. One person can see nothing but negatives in the world and not understand how someone can see positives and other people will have the exact opposite take.

It would have helped if Ligotti was not such a massive pussy and a faggot. The fact that he addresses suicide in only two lines - by saying how stupid people are for suggesting suicide - speaks volumes. He should have practiced what he preached. Like Mainländer. Otherwise, pretty fun read.

I've read enough antinatalists to understand that antinatalists refuse to think about his.
Antinatalism is just a poor attempt at rationalizing the feeling that life sucks. Antinatalists are incapable of distinguishing between facts and their own feelings, so they believe that their dislike of life must point to some deep universal truth that life actually, factually sucks. hhjjhc
The problem is that almost all of the arguments they come up with to justify these feelings end up implying that death is preferable to life and we should all kill ourselves and take as many people with us as possible. Most antinatalists are quite reasonably apalled by this implication, but because they're already dogmatically committed to antinatalism being true, they attempt to reconcile antinatalism and their aversion to death by simply making it axiomatic that death sucks even worse than life, even though that just ends up introducing a bunch of contradictions to their philosophical system and undermining the whole thing.

Well, the book isn't really saying "the world is shit". Anybody can tell you that. Instead the book is more focused on telling you "yeah, it's shit, but here's the mechanisms we adapt in order to cope with reality and push death out of our minds." The eponymous conspiracy is the set of lies and delusions we use to function in every day life despite knowing we're heading towards disease and death.

The honest (or incidental) project of the antinatalists is anti-rational antifragility. If you're a truth-seeker then you're ready to hear the truth: you don't need mental processes in your head that makes you feel bad, especially not those that are based on overly rational and material models. You're supposed to read this stuff until it doesn't bother you anymore, only then will you be free from this sickness of rationality
