Borges said that the literal mention of that single "one" (which was added for superstitious reasons probably and in OP's version it comes from Burton) is so great it suggests the infinity of its contents.

All of Nietzsche's titles are god tier.

>Twilight of the Idols
>Beyond Good and Evil
>The Birth of Tragedy
>Thus Spoke Zarathustra

"The Gay Science" is a little weird, I'm sure it sounded better back then / in German.

Definitely agree, OP.

Others I like: Paradise Lost, Art of War, The Divine Comedy

How do you even begin to write a good title? I’m currently writing a fantasy/romance (romance as in the Arthurian romance, not the love romance) novel set in an endless forest, and the best title I can come up with is either “the land above the hill” (which refers to a famous song within the story) or “beyond the endless horizon” (relating to the main characters need and desire to see the world beyond what he has seen for years)

>> No.15988212

>>15988169
The smallest amount of words that pack the strongest punch. "Beyond Good and Evil" and "The Art of War" are four words, but after reading the fourth word, you can already feel a sense of the magic contained within those texts.

So I should go with the second title then, at least for the whole of the series. I have other names for the names of the individual books, like “walking with wooden giants” and “cities of grass”

No. “Bible” comes from Latin “biblio” meaning “book”, so it only means “the book” which is a retarded name.

biblio is a really rare word, its not even in my latin dictionary so i had to use google, it seems to be the greek word for book, so it can be surmised that, since the greeks got a hold of the bible much later than the hebrew was written, that the hebrew portion of the bible had a separate name. and in fact each book of the bible has its own corresponding name, the first five being unnamned i believe, simply referred to as the 1-5 books of moses (genesis exodus etc being latin names attributed much later) so the jewish name for the books of moses would be most accurate, but theres no reason to have a 'cool' name because the book was written over several thousand years and most of the new testament is fucking epistles (that itself being a latin word) so fuck you the bible has a much cooler naming tradition than you give it credit for, it is as if every people that had the book added something to it as a living tradition, the greeks in biblio, the latins in epistle and genesis, the germans contributed much to the names (rather to the detriment) because the transliteration Jesus is better spelled Iesus, which the j makes the same sound as an i in that position in german. so there really is a lot of nuance, your just a faggot

I agree many sci-fi books have great titles. Usually a very long title only works with a short story, but sci-fi books often manage to get away with chatty titles, for some reason. Maybe it's because sci-fi doesn't take itself too seriously (or at least, pretends it doesn't.)

Some other sci-fi titles I like:

>The Stars My Destination

>To Your Scattered Bodies Go
(A quotation from a Donne sonnet, IIRC)

>I, Robot

Philip K Dick wrote some great titles:

>The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch

>A Scanner Darkly

>The Man Whose Teeth Were All Exactly Alike

and the best title ever:

>Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said

He also wrote some really bad ones.

>The Zap Gun
is pretty awful.

Also
>Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?
is useless. "Blade Runner" is 1000x better.

Notice how
>We Can Remember It For You Wholesale
just about works as a title for a short story, but it would be ridiculous for a blockbuster action film. "Total Recall" is perfect.

Your main problem is that trees and forests are universally seen as Good Things. Everyone likes trees. But you want a title about going *beyond* the trees, which depicts the trees as something restrictive, something slightly negative. That's a tricky feeling to nail.

"Beyond the Endless Horizon" is pretty bad. "The Land Above The Hill" is slightly better, but sounds like a story for young children, which is probably not what you're aiming for. Shortening it to "Above The Hill" is an improvement.

Some other possibilities:

>Leaf-Light

>Where The Rustling Ocean Ends

>Blue Between The Branches

>What The Last Beech Sees
(Beech-trees typically grow on the edge of woodland.)

>A Sliver Of Sky

I will never not hate the CH sound in Spanish, it's so grating to the ear. The title sounds like shit, as if someone accidentally dropped a silver platter to the stone floor in the dead of the night. The French title is far superior.
