Reading the criticism of JP in this thread I find the arguments largely in bad faith. You can take a cynical dismissive view of anything. You can call golf "just a stupid game hitting balls with sticks", and you would be right in a way, but the problem is that not only could you take this attitude towards any subject, but you also lose something by ignoring the value others see.
Jordan Peterson has an outlier metaphysical perspective. This underlies most of what he says, and I believe is the true reason his detractors oppose him. He does not see scientific empirical knowledge at the ultimate foundational, but rather places phenomenological self as a the bedrock of reality. Empiricism is a tool we can use, but it is not absolute truth.
The best example to illustrate is when he was asked "if humans didn't exist, would God exist?" and he responded that without a subject, nothing exists, and therefore the question doesn't make sense.
You can disagree with Peterson. But the people who say he is speaking gibberish and hiding behind big words are pseuds and do not understand him - they are too embedded in their metaphysics to comprehend another (or understand the sort of language that would be required to communicate that another). Peterson is fascinating, but not for his self help advice. I highly recommend his Maps of Meaning of course to anyone who is interested to learn more.
