hello lit. i need your help. as part of my secondary education class, one of the projects involves building a lesson plan around a "young adult novel". now, admittedly, i don't read very much, but i generally consider this kinds of books (hunger games, harry potter, divergent, etc) to be complete childish garbage. and so i come to you: are there legitimately good YA novels? could you please recommend me what you consider the best? i really, really don't want to waste my time with something that sucks because an entire 45%-of-my-grade project rests on this.

and uh, i said i dont really read, but i do have two favorite books: the man who was thursday and the midwich cuckoos. dunno if there are any YA books like those, but that'd be cool

There is this genre called adventure.
I think it's a precursor to the YA, at least, but most of them classics so that may be put into question:
>robinson Crusoe
>Treasure Island
>Huckleberry Finn
>anything by Julio Verne and Jack London
I don't read anything contemporary so if you are looking for that i can not help you.

I'd honestly read pride and prejudice and do one around that. That is ballsy asf to tell me it has to be ya

Yeah if you can’t pitch and sell one of these as fitting the YA novel requirement then that’s just sad.
You could probably even get away with Catcher in the Rye or Lord of the Flies.
The only hitch is if the department’s whole idea is it has to be an easy read kids will enjoy. Like something deliberately sandwiches in between a couple of classes to keep kids from bitching in which case they might genuinely want something with a franchise association.

look guys, as much as i'd love to pick an actually old, good book, she's very much going to be a stickler for it being a current, modern day YA novel. she introduced herself as "doctor, because i don't like 'missus' since it defines me by my marriage" and she asked for our pronouns. you get the situation im in? please help me.

you tell her you're doing Jane austen and enjoy that your teacher will let you do a female because she's a moron who doesn't know austen was a realist and would have hated feminists. That is insane

This is a literature board, YA books are not literature.
