Either read something different or take a break.

Same, but it's also made me realize the importance of power and of being able to kill and silence the repulsive other. In a way I'm inspired to do things on this earthly realm precisely because it's the only one I'll know and I hate so very much of it.

Well, reading has benefited me immensily, I polished my vocabulary, and improved my comprehension of other languages and cultures, to be fair, I also find reading fiction to be very entertaining, it's like i'm a passenger that for a small period of time travels through worlds beyond wonder, experiencing the possibilites of human and inhuman existence.

Protagonists are not for you to self-insert, rather, you are a canvas of their imprints

So why would i read about people which are completely different from me? I dont gain anything by doing that.

You will gain empathy if you stick with it.

You gain an insight on how other people might operate. You could contrast their opinions and actions to your own. You maintain a dialogue with some writer, but most importantly, you maintain a dialogue with yourself.

Okay that makes sense. However i'd much rather read about self-insert as its much more relevant to me than for example some womanizer or a woman.

everyone self-inserts anon, don't feel ashamed because of that. 99% protagonists are designed to be identifiable with the target audience.

books, just like any other medium really, are not designed for social rejects and shut-ins. if you don't engage with people most likely you won't even understand our empathise with the characters in the book.

You have nothing to gain from looking into a mirror and everything to gain from reading about people completely different from yourself.
If you want to "gain" something then read about people you are not.

speak for yourself negrito
I was much more depressed when I was watching anime and netflix series, now that I read books that help me make sense of world, society and mind (fiction and non fiction both), I feel much more comfortable, and even excited towards living
