kek I noticed this. The faggot is obviously a pleb.

>> No.16643835

I'm sad that the filtered fool was too lazy to do a third and fourth thread with the other covers.

>> No.16643861

Being and Time (realized I had not read nearly enough philosophy beforehand to comprehend it; too young)
Anna Karenina (got bored because too young and the person I was reading it with stopped reading, ruining the incentive)
In Search of Lost Time (also too young and boyish, got to volume 4 and realized I hadnt been paying attention and had no idea what was going on. Found it tedious, effeminate, bourgeois, too much information about drawing rooms and slippers and tea time for a teenage boy)

>> No.16643883

Ulysses. Really liked circe and Penelope, found bloom to be tolerable, but was bored to tears by anything pertaining dedalus. It got more tolerable after reading portrait of the artist but only slightly

I've heard its a common sentiment, but The Scarlet Letter was so fucking boring. I've read other writers from that time and have always enjoyed them, but The Scarlet Letter was just too much prose for so little plot.

I really enjoyed East of Eden but I’ve started it several time and haven’t finished it. It’s probably my favorite novel that I’ve never finished.

Bros K unfortunately. I know this will sound as a cheap excuse, but I bought the shittiest edition on Earth, that had a font size that was wayyy too small. I'll try again next month with the ebook.

I got filtered two years ago by Madame Bovary. In the time since then I've read great things about Flaubert and his ouvre, to the point I'm ashamed of giving up on it before even reaching 100 pages. I'm looking forward to read it, I think I'm a different reader (and person) now.
Before that, I remember as a teen finding The Crying of Lot 49 at the library and the symbol on the cover really sparked my attention, so I gave it a try. I couldn't make sense of anything, and I got frustrated because I though I was an idiot (whitout knowing anything about Pynchon, since it's not really that famous in my country), and I left it at like page 50. Maybe I was an idiot after all, but I think that since then I've developed an appreciation for the absurd. It would definitely be different now.

I think people shouldn't be so defensive when pointed out that they have been "filtered". Part of growing as a reader is understanding that it's an art on itself, and it requires time, dedication and practice. Just understand that you (and anybody) has limitis.

>>16644307
In my opinion, you did well. It's no use forcing yourself through a shitty edition. Better wait and get yourself a better experience.

>> No.16644790

I don't know why, but for some reason Borges always went right the fuck over my head. I've tried over and over again, and while I don't doubt for a second that he's one of the greatest writers of short fiction in history, I just get intimidated every time.

>> No.16644865

"Filtered' is a meme to excuse bad, convoluted writing.

Don't take it too seriously. I spend many years afraid of him (people have such big opinions!) and then when I finally read it I laughed my ass off you like you wouldn't believe.
Read it as satire, and don't think too hard about metaphysics, and maths, and of all that. That comes later. For Jorge Luis, literature was meant to be a joy, he wrote so people could laugh with him.
Don't trust in the people that talk about Borges without a smile in their faces.

Read "The Analytical Language of John Wilkins". There is one of his tricks: a seemingly logical premise turns grotesque when taken to its limits, while keeping a serious tone that makes you wonder if is "fiction" or an "essay", blurring the lines of reality. If you can't see the funny in that short story just don't bother with him.

My mom speaks german and I was reading Gaddis's The Tunnel and first twenty pages maybe a boy is introduced by saying a repetitive phrase in german to our main character, I was like mom what does "repetitive german phrase mean"
and she's like "what is the context?"
and I'm like "it's a kid saying it to a man"
and she's like "he's saying "Do me! Do me! Do me!" what the fuck are you reading"

So I had to stop reading it around the house and haven't had the chance to pick it up since moving out.
