the tone of this article is truly fucking ridiculous. It's like, i dont even know, a coach or parent or authority figure berating you because you've been misbehaving for a while and they're setting you straight. What the actual fuck has made journalists write like this

So he's arguing for an option that 'makes more economic sense'. What are the steps he takes to make it an argument for one being a good or a bad person?

It doesn't seem like satire but I admit I have a hard time telling what is satire lately

i honestly cant tell

ive had my phone for 4 years now which is obviously cheaper than what they're suggesting. it only makes "more economic sense" if you would otherwise get a new phone every two years which nets you a lower resale value

The obvious rightness of Kaczynski means it is confusing that hardly anyone will accept it.

Wow, you're right. I was almost certain it was satire. Journalists seem little more than affiliate marketers these days.

The article raises some points about selling your phone back to the company you bought it from through some strange refund policy, which could make some economic sense if you are going to buy a new phone every two years, but still, this has to be satire right? Either that, or the author doesn't realize that not everybody is obsessed with their phone.

I had my last phone for 5 years without issues and only changed it because the battery died. I don't do anything with the new one that the old one couldn't have done. For many people upgrading every year or two years makes no sense.

At this point do they even really need to do? Consumer culture is so ingrained that it self-perpetuates. I wouldn't be surprised if the person who wrote that did it for free.
