Who writes similar stuff to this now?

I have been reading Robert E Howard which is pretty good but hes also from like 100 years ago.

Did the world juts give up on this genre? why cant i find anything good like it from any modern authors.

Does /lit know anything i should check out?
I want cosmic horror, cults, weird shit etc

In their twenties, Kiernan identified as transgender and transitioned to female,[17] further identifying as lesbian.[18] In 2020 Kiernan stated, "I no longer consider myself transgender (or transsexual). I would say that I'm gender fluid, if I had to say anything," explaining that this was not a recognized option in the 1980s.[17] They added that male or female pronouns do not offend them, but prefer "they, them, and their".[17]

Kiernan has identified as an atheist pagan.[18]

Kiernan lives in Birmingham, Alabama,[2] with photographer and doll maker Kathryn A. Pollnac

I just read this last night.
Very Lovecraftian and he namechecks Lovecraft, Machen, Blackwood and M. R. James in the book.
He’s not very prolific though. Been writing since the seventies and only has four or five books.

you could look at other members of the lovecraft circle ( his writer friends ) for more Lovecraftian stuff. Some authors also would add to the Robert Howard Hyboreian mythos but i have been told alot of the later stuff doesnt equal that of Howard's.

The fear of the unknown becomes less powerful the more you know. But nowadays to comprehend the uncertainty of the universe you have to give it attention. We still haven't fully explored the ocean yet we don't give a shit anymore. Why? Our attention spans have shrunken since mass media advancements. You can answer nearly any question in less than a minute from nearly anywhere. It assures you. All we have is life after death and dementia as sources for unknown fear. There's still cosmic horror but nowadays only advanced mathematicians and cosmologists would experience it. And God forbid someone of our citizen calibre was to read a big book.

Haven't read this yet but it's been on my watchlist for quite a while. It's written by a philosopher and professor from iran, and the protagonist in this book is an archeologist also from iran.
It's essentially a mix of "lovecraftian" horror and postmodern theory (aka theory-fiction). The reviews say it's pretty dense and difficult to tackle.

>I want cosmic horror, cults, weird shit etc

I've found good stories in those Lovecraft pastiche short story collections, of which there are probably hundreds at this point.

Haven't kept track of the authors or the titles.* Would be a nice crowd-source project to read through a lot of those and pick the best of the best.

Also, Ramsey Campbell's youthful stories are mostly in the Lovecraft mode. I've never read them, however, although I have been meaning to get around to them as I suspect they might be rather good.

*Here's one I can remember that I liked; it's not a masterpiece, but it conjured a nice mood, and had some powerfully suggestive imagery: Dale Bailey and Nathan Ballingrud, “The Crevasse”. From the collection Lovecraft Unbound.

Who cares lol. Isn't it fitting that weird fiction is an obscure and dying genre? This makes it even more intriguing. Those writers I listed, they're great, just read them and start writing your own stuff as well.

And if you really must read contemporary:
- Ligotti
- China Melville
- Pugmire
- Laird Barron
- Ramsey Campbell

Anyway, have fun :)
