Honestly, this thread has given me a great short story idea. A tragicomedy about lonely anon who goes to a bar and meets mute/deaf woman. He spends several hours trying to read up on muteness/deafness in an attempt to not offend her, and in the process, creates this fictive and idealised version of the mute/deaf qt gf in contrast to his loathing of "most women" (it is implied that the muteness satiates his desire for a submissive woman). Ends up offending her with something completely unrelated to muteness/deafness. Hilarity ensues. Our protagonist ponders what he did wrong as the girl leaves the bar.

Maybe this short story would work better as a "second hand" story told through the medium of the protag above complaining to his friend.
