What's your vocab learning process? For me, the only way I can learn properly is if I've seen it in a book. Then I mark it, search on google, check the definition and pictures, then use it in a sentence. It sticks that way

The size of your vocabulary doesn't really matter. It's how you use it. People aren't going to get absorbed in a story where they have to look up a word every five sentences.

I don't think this is accurate at all, my english is better than my italian by a land mile. I had no problems reading joyce or shakespeare, while I miss lots of words/sentences reading calvino. I have also chatted with americans in person without any difficulty, while I struggle to find words to express myself in italian.
