When you think about it there's no reason to treat fiction as anything more than an idle time waster like a flick or a pop song. Most writers are homebodies who spends all their time reading and day dreaming. So the world of fiction is an incestuous breeding ground for dumb ideas and perspectives on the world with nothing forcing them back towards reality. Because fiction is written by solitary weirdos who have warped views of a world they've barely interacted with there's not much to be gained from a deeper reading of them. At best you can better understand the inner-workings of a deficient person's mind. But obviously trying to extract some lesson about the world is totally futile.
