Before the 70s academia was dominated by right wing authors even all the way to Nazis. Now academia is so predominantly leftist it isn't even funny. Can you name a single prolific right wing author this century?

The right became dominated by utilitarians who thought the liberal arts were worthless, so they were effortlessly taken over by woke liberals who used this uncontested position to gradually consume the entire Anglo academic world, slowly pushing the envelope more and more until they had total control. The only way forward would be to make independent institutions in open opposition with physical presence. Even the Jesuit, Mormon, etc. universities eventually lost to wokeism.

These are the ones who immediately pop into mind. Most actually good philosophers (even in political philosophy) don't inject modern politics into their works, and those who do, very vaguely. Even then, there's plenty (especially in the post-Nozick landscape)

Right wing movements became more anti intellectual and populist. Conservatives tell young people not to study liberal arts but "practical" careerist pursuits like business or law. Fox News demonizes academia as socialist and indoctrination camps. Right wingers moved away from industrialists and businessmen to unwashed rednecks who live off welfare but hate black people more.

> Mike Rowe singlehandedly convinced all conservatives not to study liberal arts

So conservatives left academia when liberal arts still meant a classical education, and not after it was changed to a progressive education whose goal was to undermine the former? This change happened in the 60s, around the same time as the OSS (proto-CIA) was hiring scholars like Marcuse and other Frankfurt school critical theorists to fight facism and soviet communism by spreading their "New Left" on campuses. The result was Critical Theory: an ideology which critiques Western Civilization from the greeks to WW2 and everything supporting it as exclusionary and oppressive. The required reading for liberal arts at many universities is this: a few months of the classics, then three and a half years of critical theorists, critical race and critical feminism telling you how awful and privileged they were. It's possible conservatives left after the quality went downhill, not before.

But it wasn't
Buckley, admittedly an arch conservative, was complaining about left dominated universities in the fifties
Crews, left wing but not fond of "theory", wrote the pooh perplex in the early sixties and he pointed out that dominant Freudians of the fifties and sixties were the Trotskyists of the thirties and forties
Academia, generally speaking, operates under a madness of the ivory towers systems and a publish or die principle, as such, if something loosens the tongue (you can write lots and lots through its lens) and is sufficiently controversial with "common wisdom", it's going to catch on like wildfire
This is the primary reason why such ideas are very popular
Most conservative ideas don't really have that and are thus weak in an academic context
Just look at YouTube for something similar
You can write Marxist and Deconstructionist critiques of anything very easily
What would the conservative equivalent be? An analysis of sublime aesthetics in Shrek? A Catholic analysis of game of thrones?

Admittedly there aren't many, owning to the very hostile and ideologically conformist nature of the modern university. It also depends what and who you consider to fall under the broad label "right-wing".

An identifier we can use for "right-wing" could be an acknowledgement of natural hierarchies and a general opposition to egalitarianism and the dominate politics of modern universities.
Most of the people I will list also are not explicit "philosophers", and often cover untenable topics in academia like racial differences

>John Kekes, Alain de Benoist, Peter King, Paul Gottfried, Richardo Duchesene, Edward Dutton, Andrew Fraser and Kevin Macdonald come to mind

Like others I would also include Curtis Yarvin (Moldbug) formal academic position, he has and continues to have a big influence on contemporary dissident right-wing thought.

Off topic but when did academia lose it's prestige? It could be my incorrect perception but it seems like in recent past it was universally praised. It's almost as if most people have lost faith in it. I really wish people didn't lose interest in philosophy either.
