What is your opinion on Hegel? Was he more than an obscurantist historicist?

I think hegel is great when read within his context, people ignore his science of logic and people ignore his sources and then dive into him and get surprised that they can’t understand his work. I don’t believe he was trying to be obscure at all.

Since you endorse him I might give him a try. But what is your take on his historicism? Doesn't it work like a backdoor to smuggle relativism into otherwise firm and foundational philosophies?

>> No.17089585

Hegel did literally, and I genuinely mean literally, nothing wrong.

>> No.17089645

When Nietzsche read Hegel later in his life,.after a lifetime of not touching him because of his exposure to Schops, even he realized that Schopenhauer was talking out of his ass about Hegel

if I remember correctly one key passage goes something like "we Germans are all Hegelians at heart, whether we know it or not".

Anyway, I don't think Hegel and Schoppy are incompatible at all. The world as Will is just a different philosophical horizon. It's a proto-phenomenological motif, and that's precisely where Hegel's philosophy ends. The owl of Minerva takes flight only at the end of the day, dialectical philosophy is purely retrospective. The miracle of the day goes unexplained.
