His entire spiel about democracy being self-defeating not only has been proven to be completely wrong. But in fact quite the opposite, parliamentary liberal democracy seems to thrive due to ideological conflict. He thought that leftists would go on to become like Mao's partisans and was entirely unable to cope with social democracy. Liberalism also quite apart from what he was saying, can be just as permissive as it can be authoritarian. This begs the question then considering modern political developments if his school of thought is really "political realism" or just conservative for conservativisms sake.

Also the anti-american seething coming from both frankfurt style leftists and far right conservatives in the inter war period is hilarious. Europeans feared the US at the time way more than the soviet union.
