First 100 pages were excellent, and I didn't even mind the cetology chapters at first. But now I'm 400 pages in and with the exception of a few occasional events, Melville just keeps going on about whaling shit that doesn't interest me. Do I quit or just persevere through the next 200 pages or so? Have you ever dropped a book even after reading the majority of it?

Just persevere. Not because it gets better, but just to have gave the book a legitimate chance. It's quite like cock and ball torture - not everyone's into it, but the ones that are really enjoy it.

Its a garbage book that is memed to prank normies into reading a homosexual softcore story

>> No.17212948

It still boggles my mind how some boring shit like Moby Dick makes the top spot in the 100 books list.

Get filtered. Whale facts are awesome and makes the book feel complete desu

The book is an experience. You read it until you spend every moment of your day thinking about whales and then you can understand the madness and futility of life

I may not hate women like that guy but whale facts are badass

no one has answered his question yet. Since he dosnt think the rest of the book will be good what should he do?

>> No.17213223

Just skim through the rest and read the chapters that seem interesting. There's one where Queequeg buys a coffin because he thinks it's a canoe.

Just skip the chapters about whale facts, duh.

Moby Dick is one of those books that because no sane person would want to read all of it, pseuds claim it's 2deep4u and that you're filtered.

I still don’t understand how people can read this and only see the whaling information at the most surface level rather than noticing anything thematic. Oh wait, it’s because >80% of “readers” skim read everything like racking up book counts is what matters and barely stop to think about or understand what they’re reading. The book is about multiplicity of perspective and the unknowability of the nature of reality/God/the universe, the best section of the book is the portion with the least narrative between the whiteness of the whale (the best and most important chapter in the book) and The Fossil Whale (after which the narrative becomes more central again).
>>17213230
People who read Moby-Dick abridged have not read Moby-Dick. The true narrative of the book is Ishmael’s exploration of being, not Ahabs revenge which is itself part of the former.

Only retards think Moby-Dick is a difficult book to read into, stop speed-reading

No, they arent. They are retarded, creepy looking fatass creatures that spend their entire lives deep down in the dark abusing tiny life forms to sustain themselves, all so they can roam around yelling out autistic, ultrasonic screeches expressing how horny they are and how much they want to bang some Big Blue Whale Pussy

Back off.
