Everyone post the moment you realized brick and mortar bookstores no longer considered readers a demographic, and that online bookstores are next.
>walk into BN today to find a journal, since I always buy them from there
>bombarded with visual media telling me to buy a book about Biden and go to the starbucks
>walk over to where the journals were last time after they moved the visit before
>it's now reference books
>son of a fucking bitch not again
>start walking around to find them, already too angry to let someone help me
>walk past lgbtq/gender studies section
>what the fuck when did this get here
>every book I see is written by
>Hillary Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, Melinda Gates, Michelle Obama
>this isn't even gender studies it's just convincing women that it's normal to find the most powerful man you can and get pregnant
>fucking kill me
>see the section marked "journals" above the fray
>turn to walk towards it, tip over a gundam model display which in turn tips over 6 shelves of board games, yu-gi-oh! Cards, nooks, DVDs, vinyl records, puzzles, straight up childrens toys, Harry Potter merchandise, and anime shit
>just fucking ignore it and walk towards the journals
>have to walk past a wall of books that all have "stoic" in the title
>e.g. cooking with stoics, the working stoic, stoic motherhood, etc
>ah yes, the philosophy section, my favorite
>despite being soifest BN they only have a single book by Foucault because they've fallen that far into pandering
>whatever just end my life
>get to the journals, which are flanked by the "social sciences" section
>ho-lee fuck
>I sure hope none of you are white because just by looking at the titles white people are the only problem in the social sciences
>an actual title was "White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide"
>whatever we're all gonna die anyway
>look at the journals
My choices are:
>shit for kids
>disgustingly ornate journals for showing off to whatever pseudo-writer circlejerk you belong to
>15 variants of "live laugh love" decorated journals
>"writing prompt" journals
>fucking gridline journals
What I wanted:
>a black book with lined pages to write my notes it
>start to walk out, see more journals in the impulse by section near checkout
>what the fuck, why put them there when you have a section for them
>pick one up
>black book
>page marker
>little thin but otherwise alright, I'll just buy a couple
>price: $25.00
>just kill me
>turn the journal over
>"sync with your Google notes and Google calendar through the app!"
>I'm triggered
>I don't want to sync my innermost thoughts with fucking Google, I want a goddamn journal.
>realize I'm officially old at the ripe age of 27
>go home and pray for death
And to those of you who are telling me to "go to a local bookstore" or "just buy used on the internet"
>local bookstore currently has zero in-store shopping. You get to squint through shitty Facebook photos and call in
>used books are a temporary solution to a trajectory issue

>> No.17298782

i used to work in a chain used bookstore, was kind of gay. work at one location that was pretty laid back, but two others that were decidedly NOT laid back, and was all about hitting numbers and all that shit.

Sounds like a personal problem, should have just ran into CVS and got an old mead spiral notebook

>> No.17298802

>>17298792
Paper's too thin and the perforation means the pages are not going to last. Plus the spiral is annoying when I have to write up against it.
Great for classes, bad for journaling. But obviously that's where I'm going to end up.

Want Braille Uno deck because it’s cool.
Target sells out before I purchase a couple.
Fuck,
I’ll have to pay scalpers on Ebay $$$ normal price to get one, plus shipping.
Go into Barnes & Noble,
Holy fuck, they have a couple Braille Uno decks.
And yeah, B&N is supposed to be a bookstore, but even bookstores a few decades ago sometimes carried toys or stuffed animals that matched up with children’s books.
My main gripe about B&N, is that they carry shit paperback versions of books, even when there’s a nicely printed Everyman’s library edition that costs about the same.

Last time I went to a Barnes and Nobles was a few years ago during my first year in college. Was planning on writing a paper on Plato and there was a store near my school so I decided to stop by on the way home after class. They did not have a single work by Plato. That was when I realized how bad things had gotten.

Also, I'm fairly certain that those books by Obama/Clinton and what not are thinly veiled money laundering schemes. Even the extremely liberal people I know from school don't read that garbage but somehow they're always bestsellers

It's the pseud textbook. Mostly pointless platitudes and obvious statements that anyone could make. But it's very easy to read, quote, and looks great on a bookshelf or desk, so people buy or (more commonly) gift the shit out of it.

But I'm being too critical; it's good to have all the basic concepts of warfare laid out plainly and explained simply. Plus the fact that it was written in 500 BC makes it even more impressive. But yeah, the current obsession with How To Fight Wars Good is annoying.

only have BN near me. it's trash if you're trying to buy books, but they have a big selection of board games if you're into that. most of them are garbage and i would be embarrassed to have them on my game shelf, but there are a few good ones. it's less awkward than going into a small locally owned game shop and pulling the one employee away from his mtg game with the only other person in the shop so he can ask if you need help.
there used to be a used bookstore around, it was pretty much all harlequin books for $3 and the odd manga, but it would never be the full series. volume 6 of naruto would be by itself just sitting on the shelf right next to like, the ruthless billionaire's virgin or some shit. it shut down, for some reason. rip

After the round of games we would go to a bar or disco, now we just stay at his apartment and play some music or get wasted. Some girls were willing to learn how to play, with others we would just cut to playing music or drinking.

Not even trying to be antagonistic, but a business will stay in business by following demand and then creating profit. If some random bookstore in County Wicklow decides to stock a bunch of stupid books about American politicians, and they sell, it says more about your countrymen who are visiting these stores and buying the books, than anything else. It's not the American gov't exporting globalhomo to your motherland, because that removes any self-agency involved in the process, which is the same thing American liberals do to minorities.

In that area, I'd also recommend Deborah Ann's Candy/Ice Cream shop, the Tusk and Cup coffee shop, and Hoodoo Brown's BBQ all in Ridgefield. Northern Fairfield County would be a bit of a hike, but it might be worth a stop on your way to, say, New York City, though it's not exactly on the way there.

>Notice it's connected to a Church of Scientology
>Entrance is hidden off the main street in a small gravel courtyard
>Go to open the door, it's locked despite it saying it's the correct hours online
>Inside is a single-lane hallway like two feet wide full of ancient-looking books.
>I wait for a second, then turn around to leave
>Some guy opens the door, says he lives upstairs and the store is closed, but that I should try the other door just in case
>I ding the doorbell on another door in this tiny courtyard
>Wait for two minutes, no one answers.
>Go back home
>Check online again
>Just posted a message saying they're closed until April

The retail outlets I go to for books, from the book section in Target to actual comfy small business bookshops, always have these bland autobiographies of the Obamas and Trumps and how Trump is the Devil incarnate. These shelves are full most of the time and are occasionally missing one or two books, meaning that they aren't actually selling. It's always the kids books section and cookbooks that sell in Target. Actual standard bookshops are a mixed bag but will include reddit pop science books, shammy self-improvement titles and those exact crappy pop-political books. Even when you go to second hand places like the Salvation Army, the pop politics stuff remain untouched.
