The only cover from the original edition that wasn't made by Gino Starace, it was actually based on a poster advertising medicine that some rejected designer left at the publishing house, with pills being replaced by a bloody knife.
There was no name on the poster and the designer never came forward, so he missed the opportunity to be recorded in history.

You started arguing what I posted is painting by Magritte, which is not, Magritte took that cover and made his own version after reading Fantômas inspired him to do a whole series of paintings using elements from the series.

The faux marbling always looks great. Wolfe's Latro series does it too and you can feel the classiness like it's so good it had to be immortalised and carved into the stone.
On a sidenote, there's a problem with Wolfe's where all his series all in different sizes even though it's the same publisher. That's just moronic now guys

That's practically criminal. There are apparently two versions of this book from Penguin Classics, on the other one there are creases visible, because all they did was put on a picture of the movie poster someone took (movie poster has no knife cause of censorship), so maybe the Eiffel Tower was attempt at hiding that.
