island of dr moreau > time machine > war of the worlds> invisible man > first men on the moon > food of the gods

Unironically loved it. Read it last year and was impressed at how bleak and creepy it was. Wells also had a feel for military strategy (he wrote a book on wargaming) which adds to the authenticity.

>he wrote a book on wargaming
rather, he created a board game instruction manual, and called it a story.

what on earth could you have possibly liked about invisible man? your brain must be dissected by scientists.
it has hardly any symbolism, it only has one theme as far as i can tell, it's hard to understand unless you're cockney british. if you like the suspense, then it doesn't even have half the suspense in time machine or moreau

It's about a man who's fucking invisible, what's not to like there? What are you? some kind of virgin?

Been a while since I read it. I guess the beginning kind of dragged, but the mass panic scene and the MC in the broken house with the other dude observing the aliens were great.

Haven't read the last two/three and invisible man yet but from TM/Moreau/WW, the best one definitly was Time Machine.

It's great, one of my favs, but don't read this trash follow up. The author is absolutely unqualified to pair his name to H.G. Welles' great work.

What does? It's completely lacking in imagination or originality. The author likes to superimpose his progressive beliefs over the original's. It seems the only purpose of the plucky female protagonist is to lecture how superior she is to the men around her. Most of the book takes place in the same locations, with the same Martian invasion. It's overly punctuated, written in a tepid, condescending voice. Contemporary fiction is a joke.
