Combining short attention spans with 300 (or whatever the number is) character limits is the definition of Anti Intellectualism.

Anyone else think that it is a product of our overly-educated "information age" that we can't really have intellectuals anymore? If you think about it, everyone can quickly Google up an opinion on any subject, even if they don't personally have one. It dilutes the authority of "intellectuals" in a very serious way.

Academia encourages professors to not speak publicly and to avoid social media as much as possible. They hate science popularizers and it can even ruin their careers. Sagan was denied tenure at Harvard for it, even though he was qualified and there's also a story of a guy being refused from a graduate program because Zizek recommended him. And then they wonder why anti-intellectualism is on the rise and nobody listens to them.
