Is it worth reading?

A lot of feminists read that book, though.

Ironically, the "manosphere" was crazy about "Models" by the same guy years ago.

Bought this book a few years ago, Mansons book Models was useful to me so I decided i'd pick this one up too.

It is pretty middle of the road advice on how now to take yourself and other things so seriously, and that you have only so many fucks to give and those fucks should be given to things that matter.

i have no idea why the basedlets over at leddit would have a problem with it, besides Manson's history in the PUA/dating scene.

The first 30ish pages are grabby and make it seem like he's building up to something worth saying, though instead it takes a steep nosedive and reveals itself as the generic bullshit it is. Save yourself the money and google "how 2 be confident" instead.

Funnily enough, I'm just about to finish it. My take, Manson has digested most of what has been traditionally recommended on the subject of "self-help" and "self-improvement". Regurgitated it on the page in a more palatable curated form for the average "normie" or "newbie".

It's a quick and easy read. You'll find it helpful if you're new to the subject. But as other's have mentioned it's surface level and can be repetitive (by his own admission in the book itself).

I've bought the book maybe two years ago cuz I saw it in a book store and wanted to know if it encompasses anything I didn't already practice which was the case for everything active/visible but maybe not all passive things, the things that depend on your state of mind/personality/world view (which can be altered, albeit not by force & not in a short time)..
Still haven't finished it desu, but I agree on everything this anon says, except that I don't find it *that* superficial, not any more superficial than any other book of this genre, in any case.
Also, I'd like to know what exactly you meant by that or what you were implying would be the more "in depth" reading experience cuz I've spent hours reading Kant, Kierkegaard, Schopenhauer, Voltaire, Nietzsche, Sartre, Camus... and also many books on psychology (admittedly, those were mostly popular scientific books, since I find psychology papers very boring and exhausting to read (I'm a STEM guy), but as a ""young scientist"" I'd say ain't no shame in reading popular science to get a solid grasp of the topic)

my point being, I read philosophy and psychology since my mid teens (I'm 23 now) in genuine hope to find all answers for a fullfilled life - but what did I get? clinically confirmed severe depression F32.2 -- yay! <3

I kinda digressed.. hard.. but welp, I'm on 4chan so who cares.

And yes, it *is* regurgitation, but gotta love a rough summary, hm?

ppl faking the pseudo-deep, happy-go-lucky, well-adjusted good guy make me think of murder

As a nihilistic edgelord, spite & cynicism are what keeps me from ending it all (& video games + music); my failure to find meaning or worse: having discovered the inescapable philosophical dead end that is nihilism makes me angry abt ppl who blindly go on & are obliviously happy..

Kinda not my point too, but this made me remember a quote somewhere from the internet that I found very resonating w/ me:
"I utterly hate myself, thinking I'm better than everyone else at the same time."

Isn't it purely aimed at women? I've never met a man in my entire life who's problem was he gave to many shits about this and that. Women on the other hand are totally neurotic about what other people will think and trying to live up to impossible standards they set for themselves. Most men do the exact opposite they focus on one thing to the detriment of the rest of their lives whereas women will burn out due to trying to please their surroundings.

I went to a top engineering school so I have a lot of experience with both high performance people and those who can't handle the pressure. In my experience men just let go totally when they can't handle the pressure anymore and spend a few months doing nothing but playing vidya and drinking, I was able to come back from that and graduate due to strong social bonds but not everyone is that lucky. Women try to hang on for months and months while maintaining appearance never really crashing out but also never going anywhere.
Thanks for reading my blog

What did people do for the 300,000 years of homo sapiens' existence before they invented therapy? How did anyone ever live without therapy? Those poor poor people, how did they not know that they were secretly traumatized, and that they needed to pay exorbitant fees to chat with a quack who wasn't good enough to be a doctor so he could write them a prescription to make all the bad feelies go away?

honestly, that's what I need; I didn't come to him, with a big grin on my face & he told me "you are mentally ill" & I went from :) to D:

I came there cuz I've been feeling miserable for years lel

also I don't get your second green line
you mean I'm implying that in my text & find that to be untrue?
I didn't utter such a general (& daring) opinion in that text, but if you'd ask me now:
I think nobody ""needs"" anything to live, including education, good food or even fun (philosophical answer)

the practical answer is, that I wouldn't want to renounce on many conveniences that were invented in the last 100 years & I think the average guy even more so.
especially concerning access to travel, food, books from everywhere .. or just internet & - by extension - a myriad of literature & knowledge (& fun lol)
So if you were to ask me: does one "need" the internet e.g., I'd surely reply "yes"
