I disagree, the plot was excellent and very engaging while the dialogue was hilarious and a joy to read, though, I agree, it was at times subpar and unnatural (like it was written by some ESL in the 18th century.).
I get that the format is intentionally supposed to be verbose and strange (brother, may I procure some of your oats?) but I recommend the author of this oatpost takes some time to read some books from the 18th and 19th c. to get a feel for how people actually wrote and talked back then (it's easier to caricature something when you know how to realistically sketch/mimic it).
All in all, 7/10, would read again.

The process may strike you as derivative at first, but anon manages to further the moral reflection of the original work to new heights. Lively new characters are introduced, much to the reader's delight. The overall structure is superb and the climax will sink deep into your stomach. While it may not be this year's grandest work, it is a fine addition to a growing genre that certainly has much more to unravel in the future. 3.5/5

Why does the means in which the oats were procured matter? The swine starves, he will die if he does not eat. His cousin has presented him with oats. Pride is noble. The brother would not allow himself be reduced and indebted. He would be desecrating his family's name by not living (or dying) with honor. But with his death he knows his brother can live on their earnings alone. There are many interpretations of the piece, whether Cousin was truly a fiend or it was just eldest brother's upper-class prejudice, or even if younger brother was correct, that elder pig DID indeed revere Cousin and it was his starved mind and wounded pride that had him lash out. Whether the pigs were right to abstain from the half boar's gift is open to many interpretations.

This was my favorite line in the book, second only to the "noble rest" scene. Such a good series, I can't wait for the movie adaptation.
